When Elda Elwood goes on a visit to her actor lover Jake Reynolds’ ancestral home, she is drawn by a portrait of his ancestor, eighteenth century rake Lord Lucas Lovegrove.
REVIEW
She glanced back to the painting of Lord Lucas Lovegrove, who seemed to return her gaze, eyes almost sparkling with mischief. “I wonder how things worked out between them.”
Ghost stories, romance stories nonetheless…
There are two love relationships relevant, one of the present and one of the past. The ghosts will appear when the heroine is in a personal “crisis” or at least at the crossroads that could lead to a permanent relationship or its end. The manifestation of the Ghost Rake will affect the scarred heroine, “helping” her to find out what she wishes and feels for her partner as “What was between them was unspoken and unsure.”
The “lure” from the title allows
different expectations, but the final positions and circumstances, the
“reality” will take shape along the way.
I think that the best trump of
the “Lured by the Ghost Rake” is the atmosphere. The author, Marianna Reed
created and maintained an eerily mischievous air from the first to the last
page. A cold shiver of dread or anticipation will be present even in the
daylight, only its potency will be adjusted.
“I don’t mind these staring eyes in daylight, but I’ve got to admit it, there’s something unsettling about ‘em in here at night. Most likely, it’s people overreacting to stuff like that and the atmosphere you get in old buildings that leads to ghost stories.”
Changing its intensity, from whispers to thunders, the sound will be an active player stressing the readers and characters’ feelings.
Are the ghosts good or bad, are
our heroes on the ghosts’ side or not, and will we love, suffer for, or fear
the Ghost Rake? What keeps the ghost blocked in our world – is it love, regret,
redemption, or revenge? The answers to these questions are painted in shadows
of grey. Saying that, will there be happy endings?
Read “Lures by the Ghost Rake” to find out whilst having a few hours of a enjoyable read!
"The figure in the portrait had shifted into focus. Those other painted eyes, revealed as the clearest light blue, followed Elda compassionately. It was not, after all, an ordinary face. It was one which, once appreciated, could never be forgotten, due to its tenderness."Description:
