I’m Danny and I’m 21. I love beautiful book covers and posters. Ever since I was a child, I was very artistic and won several drawing competitions. As I grew up, my interest in art and design expanded somewhat. What started as something I enjoyed and was good at, became a passion.
My passion in art and design led me to start my own forum to satisfy my need to meet others with the same interests. As a result, I had to design my own buttons, banners, avatars and signatures.
Upgrading my skills came naturally, and soon I became fascinated with Photoshop and the endless possibilities I can discover with the program – from photo manipulating to digital painting from a plain white sheet.
I love reading books and seeing beautiful and creative cover designs inspires me. Not only to I enjoy the designing process, perfection is what I aim for.
I created my
cover art service to help indie authors find the right cover artist for them. I have enjoyed working with several indie authors, as well as with a fantastic publisher –
E.A.R. Publishing Company. Our collaboration has resulted in creating over 20 covers and other art works for the purpose of book promotion.
Art is Life really is a bespoke service that caters to the individual author’s needs.
OUR INTERVIEW:
(1) Do you always read the book before you design the cover for it or you go on the author’s indications?
It depends. If the author has a clear view of it, I ask just for the blurb, so I would know what I can add from myself. If the author doesn’t have a clear view of their desire I ask for the first couple of chapters.
(2) If you have to make some concessions, what is more important for you: the cover to reflect the book’s subject or to attract the readers?
I believe that the cover is the book’s face. In that point of view it is most important to me that the cover both is eye catching and attractive and is reflects the book’s soul.
(3) What are your inspiration sources and what you do when none of your ideas satisfies you completely?
My head is filled with colorful “balloons”, the inspiration depends on how the idea is provoked inside of me and how my being reacts to what is needed from me. As far as the satisfaction goes, I haven’t been unsatisfied so far, I always find a way to reach the desired result in the end.
(4) Do you feel that the cover design fulfills your artistic goals?
No, not really, but it helps a lot.
(5) What you prefer: the author’s (or publisher) implication in the cover design or to have total freedom to do what you think is best?
Definitely to unleash my full artistic nature, but what is truly needed of an graphic designer is to fulfill the author’s needs, so in that line of thought, I enjoy having to work with authors and I listen carful to what they have to say to me.
(6) What you think is most important in the cover design: color or graphic?
Well, that is a tough question. To be honest, it depends solely on the need of the author. For example a cover can be just text, there is a wonderful text effect that I would love to use when I meet the right author and the right book. But in the end what makes the cover unique and exciting is how all the pieces come together as one.
(7) Is there a question you always wanted to answer to, but that question was never asked?
Oh, that is embarrassing and has nothing to do with designing. My favourite band is Westlife. People always ask why who they are. But no one has ever asked why I fell for them in the first place. The things is, I was very little, when I heard “flying without wings”, I didn’t know English then, I didn’t know what I wanted from my life (I am still half unsure of what I am supposed to be and what is my purpose, the part I know I want to live in, though, is filled with art), but, I am sure that everyone has that 1 song that had inspired them to take a turn in their life and still live by this set point in time. So, I guess that is the one question no one ever asked me, maybe it is because it is kind of silly and small, but in the end, I will always be grateful to five men that will never know that I exist.

Sunt Danny şi am 21 de ani. Îmi plac foarte mult coperțile cărților şi
afişele. Încă de când eram copil mi-a plăcut arta şi am câştigat câteva
concursuri de desen. Pe măsură ce-am crescut, interesul meu în artă şi
design s-a extins. Ceea ce a început ca ceva care îmi plăcea şi la care
mă pricepeam, a devenit pasiune.
Pasiunea mea în artă şi design a condus la deschiderea unui forum pentru a-mi satisface nevoia de a întâlni alte persoane cu aceleaşi interese. Drept rezultat am creat propriile butoane, banner-e, avataruri şi semnături.
Dezvoltarea abilităților mele s-a petrecut natural şi am devenit rapid fascinată de Photoshop şi de nesfârşitele posibilități pe care le-am descoperit prin program – de la manipularea fotografiei la pictura digitală plecând de la o simplă foaie albă.
Îmi place să citesc şi să văd coperțile minunate şi deosebite mă inspiră. Nu doar că îmi face plăcere procesul creației, dar perfecțiunea este țelul meu.

E.A.R. Publishing Company. Din colaborarea noastră au rezultat peste 20 de coperți şi alte lucrări destinate promovării cărților.
Arta este Viață e cu adevărat un centru de comandă care satisface nevoile fiecărui autor.
INTERVIUL NOSTRU:
(1) Citeşti întotdeauna cartea înainte de a-i creea coperta sau te bazezi pe indicațiile autorului?
Depinde. Dacă autorul ştie clar ce anume vrea, îi cer doar prezentarea pentru a-mi da seama ce aş putea adăuga eu. Dacă autorul nu are o viziune clară a ceea ce doreşte, îi cer primele două capitole ale cărții.
(2) Dacă trebuie să faci unele concesii, ce este mai important pentru tine: coperta să reflecte subiectul cărții sau să atragă cititorii?
Coperta, cred eu, este chipul cărții. Din punctul ăsta de vedere cel mai important pentru mine este atât ca ea să fie interesantă şi să atragă, cât şi să reflecte esența cărții.
(3) Care îți sunt sursele de inspirație şi ce faci atunci când nici una dintre idei nu te satisface pe deplin?
Capul mi-e plin cu „baloane” colorate, inspirația depinde de ceea ce îmi stârneşte ideea înlăuntrul meu şi de cum reacționează ființa mea la ceea ce mi se cere. În ceea ce priveşte satisfacția, nu am suferit insatisfacții până acum, întotdeauna găsesc o cale să obțin rezultatul dorit în final.
(4) Simți că a creea coperți îți satisface țelurile artistice?
Nu, nu chiar, dar ajută mult.
(5) Ce preferi: ca autorul (sau editorul) să se implice în mod direct în realizarea coperții sau să ai libertate deplină să faci ceea ce crezi că e cel mai bine.
În mod clar să las frâu liber naturii mele artistice, dar e adevărat că ceea ce este nevoie de la un creator de coperți este împlinirea nevoilor autorului, aşa că, din punctul ăsta de vedere, mă bucură să pot lucra cu autorii şi să ascult atent ceea ce îmi spun.
(6) Ce crezi că este mai important pentru o copertă: culoarea sau grafica?
Ei bine, asta e o întrebare grea. Să fiu sinceră, depinde doar de nevoia autorului. De exemplu o copertă poate fi doar text, există un efect minunat al textului pe care îmi place să-l folosesc când întâlnesc cartea şi autorul potrivit. Dar în final, ceea ce face coperta unică şi captivantă este modul în care toate piesele formează un tot unitar.
(7) Există vreo întrebare la care ai fi vrut întotdeauna să răspunzi, dar nu ți-a fost niciodată pusă?
Oh, asta e stânjenitor şi nu are legătură cu design-ul. Formația mea favorită este Westlife. Oamenii mă întreabă mereu cine sunt ei. Dar nimeni nu m-a întrebat vreodată în primul rând de ce îmi place. Chestia e că, eram foarte mică când am auzit „zburând fără aripi”; nu ştiam engleză pe atunci şi nu ştiam ce vreau să fac în viață (şi încă sunt sigură doar pe jumătate de ceea ce ar trebui să fiu şi care este rostul meu, singura parte pe care o ştiu totuşi este că viața pe care vreau s-o trăiesc este plină de artă), dar sunt sigură că fiecare are un cântec nr.1 care l-a inspirat să facă o schimbare majoră în viață şi încă să meargă pe acest drum. Deci, cred că aceasta este întrebarea pe care nimeni nu mi-a pus-o vreodată, poate pentru că pare un pic caraghioasă şi neimportantă, dar în final, voi fi mereu recunoscătoare celor cinci oameni care nu au ştiut niciodată că exist.
