Now, we can love him even more - Solo: A Star Wars Story - Film Review

Prequel film that shuns away the bad reputation of a prequel because it's good.
This "Star Wars Story" is much better than a couple of the films of the series and everybody who loved Han Solo can now love him even more.

Review - Wonder Woman

I think I'll summarize to a few words, because too many are not needed. I'm not going to make a review in the usual way, because this is not necessary either. The only thing I think I'm going to do is give you an advice:

Review - Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales

The imagery makes the experience magical. If only the story and acting was up to par with the art itself then I believe the movie would have surpassed expectations and even receive more praise then the last four films.

Review - Alien Covenant

Review… sort of…

It's hard ... it's hard because I saw it, and the premiere in the U.S. is on the 19th of May. Not because I would start clattering with spoilers, but after the last one, Prometheus, I had expectations from the new film. Oops, I already think I pulled a signal. You don’t have to worry, I will not reveal anything. Maybe you could say what is the point in writing about the movie, and why would you waste your time reading something that would be useless from the beginning?

Review - Rogue One, A Star Wars Story

REVIEW

If you are an aficionado Star Wars, or one like me which grew up with the ‘70- ‘80 series and now I saw it just for the old times sake, or just movie lovers, for all of you, I recommend you to go and see the last Star Wars film - Rogue One, A Star Wars Story.

Yes, I already made the recommendation without even to give you any reason to do so, but believe me: if it isn’t the best movie of the Star Wars universe, then, at least, it’s the second. I consider that the Episode V, The Empire Strikes Back, it’s the best of the series, and Rogue One holds the second position among all the episodes and, as a spin-off, it definitely gain the Episode 3.5 status. One could say that this is the sequel which everybody wanted to be the Episode VII.

Why?

The Cursed Man by Keith Rommel - Could author be the next Stephen King?

Port St. Lucie writer Keith Rommel’s horror novel is being made into a motion picture!

Special to Florida Weekly
The next Stephen King could surface in sunny South Florida.

With troubling titles such as “The Lurking Man,” “The Sinful Man” and “The Cursed Man” — now in production as a motion-picture thriller— author Keith Rommel has taken on the tendencies of horror’s highness.

Wrote a reviewer at United Kingdom based BookLore of “The Cursed Man”: “This is a very well-written book, with a little bit of Stephen Kinglike horror. It will keep the reader interested, and it is a gem of a story.”

I’m a fan of Stephen King, and to even be compared to somebody like that is very humbling,” Mr. Rommel said. “You’re your own worst critic, so I don’t necessarily agree with it, but I’ll take the compliment.”

While the 43-year-old Port St. Lucie resident has read a lot of King’s bestsellers, other authors have influenced the writing style of the hobbyist-turned hopeful.

ROMMEL “Iris Johansen, she’s a good writer,” Mr. Rommel said. “I really liked ‘The Search.’”

He also admits the “Left Behind” apocalyptic-fiction series has made as much of an impression on him as his collection of comic books.

I am a comic book nerd — nerd, nerd, nerd, through and through,” Mr. Rommel said.

He started buying comic books in elementary school after a teacher told him he had a reading-comprehension problem and prescribed “pictures with words.”

I couldn’t put the pieces together when you asked me what happened in the story, and my teacher said to start reading books that had pictures in them,” Mr. Rommel said. “And here I am at the age of 43, and I still buy comic books, much to my wife’s dismay.”

By day, the father of two works at Rocky’s Ace Hardware in Tequesta. By night, he pens passages filled with crime, suspense and psychological fiction.

I grew up working in retail and started to write as a hobby,” Mr. Rommel said. “It has been a fine balance being able to maintain the demands of running a store, raising a family and writing. The majority of my writing is done at night when the house goes quiet.

Q: Can you describe “The Cursed Man”?
A: “The Cursed Man” is based off of a family friend’s young-adult life. His mother is living inside his head, and he’s just trying to escape her. The whole book, you’re trying to figure out whether this guy is nuts or not. It’s about abuse.

Q: How did you land a motion-picture deal?
A: I realized I had no PR, so I looked for reviewers to review the book. I mailed out 15 books and got nine reviews — one who compared my writing to Stephen King. Who knew when I licked that stamp and put it on the envelope and sent it to the United Kingdom that this would ever get the attention of a producer?

Q: When is the movie coming out?
A: Production started in February, and it’s supposed to wrap at the end of September. Intergalaxy Entertainment and James Perry are producing the movie in Pasadena, Calif.

Q: You say your movie has something in common with Star Wars. What is it? Jim Tavaré as Terry in “The Cursed Man.”
A: The moco [motion-control] crane that was used to film the Death Star!

Q: How did your father serve as an inspiration for your work?
A: My father was a big advocate of my writing and often encouraged me to try and get published. When he passed away from cancer, I was compelled to pursue publication and found a home for “The Cursed Man” at Sunbury Press. The first thing you see slapped in your face is my dedication to my father.

Q: Where can readers buy your novels?
A: They can be purchased through any major bookseller, including Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

Q: What is your goal as a writer?
A: My ultimate goal is to share my work with people in hopes of removing them out of their everyday stress and immerse them into a world of intrigue. If I was able to do my hobby as a living, I would love to be able to write books full-time.

Q: Are you going to be rich and famous someday?
A: I can tell you right now if “The Cursed Man” is successful, “The Lurking Man” is going to be a movie. They have the book already.

Review Thor: The Dark World (2013)

 REVIEW

If you are not fans of Marvel characters, or maybe you have passed the age at which you are drawn to stories like the above, I say that it is still worthing to watch the movie Thor: The Dark World even if just to spend two pleasant hours at the cinema. Perhaps the first Thor movie was enjoyable, but it didn’t had the magnitude and had lacked of some elements here and there, but it seems that after The Avengers the producers have found the secret ingredient of the recipe for success and so, Thor: The Dark World is „hammered out” at a completely different caliber.

Nobody will leave disappointed by the film. It has in it, entwined in an interesting and attractive way, something for everybody: full action, drama, romance, humor. The pace of the film is good, will keep you alert throughout and you’ll have no boring slack moments. I’m not speaking maliciously when I say that you will find some things as: scenes, characters and situations that you have encountered in other movies, but do not think about the lack of originality. There are stuffs that are catchy for the today young audience and, as there are many books or movies with vampires and zombies and you do not mind, it will not bother you either the moments that could make you think at series like The Lord of the Rings or Star Wars.

About actors and special effects or other technical data I do not think I should mention something. Maybe just to say that there are flawless: the actors are charming and the special effects are ones of a big-budget film. Superb would be the word. The setts and the scenery are majestic and visually enchanting. If you are not 3D system addicts you can easyly go to the 2D version - you'll not miss anything from the beauty of the film.

So, to stop beating around the bush, it is a movie that I recommend you to see it - as fans of Marvel characters, or just as someone who wants to spend their free time in a pleasant and fun way at the cinema.

Enjoy the movie!

I almost forgot! Marvel fans ... in 2014 you will get Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Guardians of the Galaxy!

For you... Enjoy the patience!

Fanii Marvel... în 2014 o să aveți parte de Captain America: The Winter Soldier și Guardians of the Galaxy!

Vouă vă urez răbdare multă!

Mortal Instruments - City of Bones - thoughts about the movie

It must be said that after so many screen adaptations more or less successful, I had doubts about the Mortal Instruments - City of Bones. Especially because of the actors that were chosen, who didn’t correspond (at all) to my own images that I created reading the books. However, I put my hope in the mastery of those involved because many times the transformations they made were amazing and ... unexpected.

Now, after viewing the movie, I can tell you the following:

Action – It did not bother me the way they adapted the book, although at times I would have chosen something else or I would have added other scenes. I appreciated the fact that they didn’t remove (all) the scenes more ... how to say ... "dark" because they contribute to the atmosphere of the book and film.

Special Effects/ CGI– hats off! If anybody wants to cavil maybe he’ll find something, but I don’t see the point of it.

Script - could be better, but overall seems OK. However it seems like the script and Jade did not really help one another...

Sets - great! I liked the attention to detail and the atmosphere created by these; the atmosphere is very close from the book’s one.

The Characters:

Jocelyn - Lena Headey – I liked her, but I cannot be objective because she is one of the actresses for which I have a “soft spot”.

Luke - Adrian Turner – for what I remember, in the book, at the beginning he didn’t look so much like a "puppy" (despite his secrets), but along the movie he turns and I liked him.

Simon - Robert Sheehan – let’s say OK, although I imagined him a bit different.

Alec and Isabelle - Kevin Zegers and Jemina West – I admit that I didn’t disliked them, though about Alec ... I still have some doubts.

Valentine - Jonathan Rhys Meyers - a good choice, I liked him even if I imagined him more mannered.

Magnus Bane - Godfrey Gao – he’s my favorite and I cannot wait his next scenes!

Jade and Clary (I think everyone knows the actors: Jamie Campbell Bower and Lily Collins) - I cannot say they were bad, they were even better than I expected, but still ... I did not feel the chemistry between them ... and that's not good; who read the series knows what the end of the first book reveals and the way characters are feeling. In the film their feelings are a little pale ...

The conclusion is a positive one, although it could have been better (oh my! Every time the audience knows better) - I didn’t felt when two hours passed and that's always a good sign. On the other hand I didn’t had that heavy feeling of disappointment that I had, for example, watching the Hunger Games.

So, Enjoy the movie!

The Lone Ranger (2013)

REVIEW:

I have never taken in account the critics, nor do I think I will ever do. I come from an art line of work and I know what drive them to write positive or mainly negative about something. So I went to the movie just with the thought to spend a couple relaxing hours and that's what I got. What movie am I talking about? It is The Lone Ranger directed by Gore Verbinski, with Johnny Depp and Armie Hammer.

There is no philosophy, no art film (I would not have gone to a movie that raises some existential problems to relax and I think you wouldn’t do it either). It’s a welcome summer movie, just good for spending a few pleasant hours in the city with your loved ones. The film runs only for a few days, but I see that has spawned a whole fuss around it. What were their expectations? Do not tell me that someone relates this movie to the various remakes that have been made till now, because it will be absurd.

It's an action packed movie, a western in which moments of action and comedy are combined in a successful manner and the stunts are in tune with everything that represents the bravery and boldness of the gun slingers in the Old Wild West. It's well done, well played by actors who know their job, with great special effects, and technically we have nothing to complain about.

Now, should I play the bad cop part? If I would do that, I could say that the film takes a fantasy turn, but forget the explanations, or I could say that some issues that must be resolve in this way, are lost on the road. The producers have fallen into their own trap of success and I think this could be one of the reasons that caused discussions. There are used too many ingredients from the Pirates of the Caribbean’s recipe. For example, there are a bit too evident some of the themes used in the soundtrack. For someone with musical education will not be difficult to recognize them (are subtle, but they are there). And the most important would be how Johnny Depp played Tonto. Do not get me wrong, you’ll adore him in this role too, but he looks a little too much with Jack Sparrow. I do not know if he was asked to play in this way and this is the reason, but Johnny Depp is a great actor with a wide interpretive range. Don’t you think? If you’ll take a look over his filmography, you’ll see I’m right. It would be a shame to stay stuck in one way of playing, albeit we all love Captain Jack Sparrow.

Enough talking! There is no need nor do I want to change your opinion one way or another. I liked the movie, and I recommend to those who love the Wild West stories, and to the fans of Johnny Depp who will not be disappointed with his performance. As I said, it is a good movie that will surely relax you and make you forget your everyday problems.

Happy viewing!
