Maybe some things never change... Their New Year's Beginning by Michelle Major

"This is a super beginning. I loved the storyline and the characters. Ms. Major made Emmaline and Brian come alive for me and I felt like I was right there with them as they got to know each other and fall in love." Margie, Goodreads

At the stroke of midnight, a stranger’s kiss changes everything…

Brian Fortune doesn’t think he will ever find the woman he kissed at his brother's New Year's wedding. So when the search for the provenance of a mysterious gift leads him into a local antique store a few days later, he's stunned to find Emmaline Lewis, proprietor—and mystery kisser!

Surprise turns to shock when he realizes that she's also six months pregnant. Brian has never been the type to commit—and he’s really not ready to become a family man in one fell swoop! But suddenly he knows he’ll do anything to stay at Emmaline's side—for good…

EXCERPT

Brian had been through plenty of New Year’s countdowns. He knew the drill. A kiss at the stroke of midnight didn’t mean anything. It was tradition. Nothing more.

But as a chorus of claps and bells ringing and shouts of “Happy New Year” filled the ballroom, a funny feeling bubbled up inside of Brian that had nothing to do with the champagne.

Emmaline stood next to him, still as a statue, holding the stem of the glass so tightly he thought it might shatter between her fingers.

He wasn’t the awkward teen he’d been years ago, relegated to Brady’s shadow. He was a man now. Thirty years old and with too much experience to allow one potential kiss to mess with his head.

“Happy New Year,” he said to Emmaline, making sure to bank the emotion pulsing through him. He gave her a practiced smile. The smile that had women back in Buffalo opening their hearts—and their beds—to him without fail.

Color infused Emmaline’s cheeks, charming him despite all his self-professed experience. She clinked her glass softly against his. “Happy New Year, Brian.”

His name on her lips sounded…right somehow. And it did far more than the alcohol to soothe the maelstrom of nerves inside him. So he did what he was supposed to do at the stroke of midnight when in the company of a beautiful woman. A woman with eyes so clear it felt like he could see an entire expanse of summer sky in their crystal depths.

He leaned in to kiss her.

Emmaline promptly startled, her champagne splashing against his tux as she turned her head. Brian ended up bussing her cheek, then cringing at how badly he’d misread the situation.

Maybe some things never changed.
