Interview and Giveaway Fighting for the Edge (Edge #3) by Jennifer Comeaux

Published: November 5th, 2013

Description:

Two friends. Two dreams. One night that changes everything…

Ice dancer Aubrey London scoffs at romance. She’s focused on winning a medal at the upcoming Olympics and uses that as her excuse to avoid serious relationships. But when she and longtime friend Chris Grayden are thrown together by unforeseen circumstances, Aubrey finds herself questioning everything she's ever known about love, complicating her life both on and off the ice.

Pairs skater Emily Petrov embraces romance. She and her husband Sergei still act like honeymooners two years after their wedding. As Emily’s coach, Sergei provides constant support while she prepares to challenge for gold at the Olympics. But Sergei’s support might not be enough to help Emily overcome the one challenge she never saw coming.

With the Games only weeks away, Emily and Aubrey are on the verge of realizing their dreams. But one snowy, stormy night sets in motion a series of events that will test them in ways they never imagined, giving them more to fight for than Olympic medals.

MB's INTERVIEW

There are two lines of the story: sport competition and love. How important are one for another?
They are definitely intertwined and complement each other. Much of what happens in the characters’ love lives affects their lives as athletes and vice versa.

Do you think that the correct information about the specific domain in which story develops are important for the story credibility and quality?
Having authentic details in my stories is very important to me. I want the figure skating aspect to be as realistic as possible because so many movies and books portray the sport in an unrealistic manner. I try to make sure all the details about the competitions are true to life.

The series present us the Emily story, but in Fighting on the Edge it seems that she will “share the ice” with Aubrey and Chris. Why this change?
I had an idea for how I wanted to complete Emily’s Olympic journey, but I didn’t think it was enough to carry a full-length novel, so I started thinking about exploring Chris’s side of their partnership. I’ve always wanted to show more of him, and through Aubrey’s story we get to know him a lot better. I think readers will enjoy the “double romance” in the story!

What is your opinion about intimate scenes in a romance book? How do you establish their limits?
I like reading all types of romance books with varying degrees of heat. I think intimate scenes should serve a purpose and not just be put in for no reason. My books have steamy moments but no explicit content because that’s what I felt fit my stories. It’s important to stay true to the characters.

How hard it is for the writer to say goodbye to its characters and what moment that should be?
It’s very hard! These characters are the only ones I’ve written the past four years, so I’m very attached to them. I knew I had to say goodbye to them as main characters because their stories had all been told, but the good thing is I can keep them around as supporting characters in future books. I just started writing the first companion novel to the series, and you’ll see some familiar faces in the story!

What the tax manager says about the writer? Is “she” supportive with her alter ego?
Yes, she is very supportive, and she wishes her writer alter ego could have more time to write. But the tax manager pays the bills, so she has to get her work done!

The series sounds so much like the Cutting Edge. I still watch the movies when I'm in the mood. This series could accompany me when I want to read something. Thanks for the giveaway.
