My name is Dorian Gray - One Shade of Gray by Monica Corwin

My name is Dorian Gray. You might think you know my story? Please. That was just the beginning. Not the end.
"Monica Corwin never disappoints. Just as you think she's reached a genre limit, she knocks another out of the park."- Lu, Goodreads

My name is Dorian Gray. You might think you know my story? Please. That was just the beginning. Not the end.

I’ve lived over 100 years. I don’t know why. I’ve sinned, deeply, but haven’t we all?

Now Sybil is back. Her name is Izzy and she looks the same. Smells the same. Walks the same…but everything else about her is different. Stronger. Bolder. I want her more than ever.

I should keep her safe, and keep my hands to myself. But those dark parts of my soul still linger. I won’t lose her again.

Izzy’s Top Five Plays

I never wanted to get into theater. I had it in my head that I would one day be a screenwriter for TV. But after some school and some research I learned the theater is much less rigid than a TV production. Also I can’t write. So…I made sure I could stay so very near the art form I love.

Here are my top five favorite plays EVER.

1. Much Ado About Nothing by William Shakespeare – An amazing comedy about miscommunication that always makes me tear up at the end. If I ever went into acting, I’d want to play the Sheriff…FOREVER.

2. Rent by Jonathan Larson – There is no soundtrack on Earth that can make me try to sing like this one. A story of love and friendship, heartbreak and loss. I love every second of this epic.

3. A Very Potter Musical by Matt Lang – I loved the books and this musical just makes me happy. Who doesn’t love a good musical number. I might be partial to them. I still haven’t told Dorian this exists. He is still getting over The Cursed Child shock!

4. How the Grinch Stole Christmas by Timothy Mason (and Dr. Seuss obviously) – A strange choice, I know but stay with me here…1. A MUSICAL 2. A CHRISTMAS MUSICAL 3. Dr. Seuss. What more information do you need to fall in love with a thing?

5. The Phantom of the Opera by Andrew Lloyd Weber and Richard Stilgoe – This show is as much about the music as it is about the words. The actors could do the whole thing silently and the music would still paint a vivid enough picture to start tears in your eyes.

Ok was my last choice THAT obvious? I asked Dorian what his favorite plays were and he changes the subject pretty quickly. I think we have different pools of viable candidates. One day I’ll pry it out of him.

I remember reading the original classic book in 12th grade. This Dorian Gray looks way better, very sophisticated looking.
