The Adventure Begins… Salvage Rat by Larry N. Martin

"You have lots of mystery, action , humor but no romance yet. I did find Mack very interesting and would like to see more bits of humor because stories need it to tone down some of the heavy stuff. There are lots of sub plots and twists to the story but I think you will enjoy the significant underlying main story which ties if all together! I highly recommend this book! "- Cheryl, Goodreads

Description:

The Adventure Begins…

Star Force pilot and hero Wyatt McCoy left his medals and career behind after the Rim Wars, disillusioned and bitter when he learns the truths behind the conflict. He takes his converted gunship, the Nellie B, and heads to the Near Fringe, salvaging derelict ships and abandoned stations and mining colonies. Dr. Beth Parker is a space archeologist, documenting the history of planetary expansion and colonization for Kalok Enterprises and the Interplanetary Mining Guild. A piece of alien technology embeds itself in Beth’s arm, giving her the ability to see the energy impressions of long ago people and events. When Beth uncovers proof of genocide that could bring down the big mining companies, she’s the target of assassins. Wyatt makes a split-second decision to intervene, launching them both into a high-stakes cat-and-mouse game with some of the most powerful organizations in the system. They can prove Kalok and Interplan killed millions—but can they live long enough to tell their story?

GUEST POST

Salvage Rat had an interesting start. My wife, Gail Z. Martin, was a guest at Origins Game Fair and had to submit a Science Fiction short story. At the time she was swamped with writing several other projects so asked me to help come up with an idea. Of the two of us, I’m the Sci-Fi fan. We created the world and came up with the characters and then jointly created the original short story, Salvage Rat. From there we had to do a second and third short story for two accompanying anthologies. By the time we were done, we agreed it was a concept we wanted to expand. Regardless of the name on the cover, Gail and I work together on all the projects and have for many years. Since Salvage Rat had my interest and passion, we decided I’d take point, and a new series was born.

To prepare I shifted all my personal reading to Science Fiction and binge-watched all the latest series to see what themes were currently popular. I knew we wanted a character-driven story more than one driven by science – sorry to the hard-core science buffs. In the world we grew up in it was easy to set the stage for a universe where the power and influence of big corporations had surpassed governments and profit drove decisions, even to the extent that lives became a cost of doing business. Our heroes didn’t set out to be heroes, they are regular people caught up in life and trying to do what they think is right. This is their journey, battling their own personal demons as they try to make a difference and stay alive in the process.
