Day by day, piece by piece... The Black Widow (Dark Secrets Duet #2) by Christa Simpson

18+ "[U]tterly dark, edgy, twisted and totally scrumptious. [...] I love the authors writing style and how everything unfolds in a way that is purely mystifying. One of the best thriller duet's that I ever read, I want more. An unforgettable read that will rattle you to the core." - Sophie, Goodreads

Day by day, piece by piece, he puts it all together. What will happen when he finally realizes what I’ve done?

There was a time when I thought I was simply a magnet for trouble. Now I know better. If you want to call me the Black Widow, I’m going to own it. You want a monster? I’ll give you one. I’ll alienate you from everything you know and love. You will learn the hard way that evil doesn’t only lurk in our imaginations.

The tall, dark and handsome cop would be well-advised to steer clear of me. He knows better than to get tangled in the web I’ve weaved. I warned him. I told him not to mess with me if he values his life. You’re probably wondering what’ll happen when my darkest truths unravel. It’s not my problem anymore. If he sticks around, he will be the author of his own misfortune.

Caught in my own dangerous game of elimination, will he be the last nail in my coffin?

Author's Q&A

Q: In your own words, what is The Black Widow about?
Christa Simpson: Thank you for having me! The Black Widow is about a woman who has relied on revenge to find herself, after a horrible series of events. It is a story following the unusual life of Clarisse Blackwell. She's a young woman with a tormented childhood, who is emotionally abused throughout college, and becomes tied to a string of unusual and suspect deaths. Life throws her a few curve balls that leave her with nothing left to lose. That makes her dangerous. She turns to revenge to mollify her anxiety and depression. When her brother-in-law, who happens to be a cop, gets involved, things get interesting. The story is a psychological thriller, an unforgettable tale of secrets, deception and dark desires.

Q: What inspired you to write this story? Was there one “lightbulb moment” when the concept for this book popped into your head, or did it develop over time?
Christa: The Dark Secrets Duet is my passion project. I wanted to reach out to people who suffer from emotional or physical abuse, mental illness, or who live with others who have mental health issues and let them know they are not alone! A book is such an intimate thing. You can unleash your own dark secrets, and chat with your readers about them in the privacy of their own reading nook, and others are none the wiser. This book was one that demanded be written. It was a series of moments that had to be unleashed in fiction.

Q: If you had to describe The Black Widow in 3 adjectives, which would you choose and why?
Christa: Intoxicating, sensational, shocking.

It’s an exhilarating, fast-paced story that will command your attend, surprise you with every twist, thrill you with the suspense, and persuade you to understand the Black Widow’s sinister nature.
