The Devil's Liege by Danielle DeVor

Published: September 26th, 2014

Description:

Being a vampire isn't all it's cracked up to be- in fact, it kind of sucks.

After surviving his duel with Lilith, Mathias thought that he could relax. That is until he discovers that, Nossy, the new king, has been kidnapped.

When the investigating vampires seem to have no clue how to rescue Nosferatu, Mathias must step in. Everything is peachy until Mathias is named the next new king in order to stop the man behind Nossy’s kidnapping from taking over the throne.

Suddenly, his life is not his own again, and Mathias must make a choice: risk his life to find his friend, or sit back and watch disaster unfold.

Like many homeless kids, fifteen-year-old Mathias Drvar died on the streets. Unlike the rest, he came back– as a vampire.

If Mathias thought being homeless sucked, being a vampire is worse. The vampires who transformed him believe he is the reincarnation of an ancient king. They expect him to quit swearing, use a napkin, and play by their weird, ancient rules. F— that.

But after the reigning queen assaults Mathias, he has visions of a past life in which he was that king. Turns out the current queen killed him then, and wants to kill him again. He’d better grow up fast, because if he doesn’t his second life may be shorter than his first.

GUEST POST
Demons and Vampires, Are They Related?

The old Catholic Church would have us think so. In the Malleus Mallefecarum, the book that witch hunters used to kill and supposedly oust witches, vampires were classified as demonic spiritual entities.

But, of course, this was very different than the Romanian strigoi, the type of vampire we are most often exposed to. A living corpse that drinks our blood to survive.

However, vampires also have magical powers like shapeshifting. This is something demons can do as well. Demons also live on murder, chaos, sex, and yes, sometimes blood.

So, I got to thinking about how it is possible that demons are cousins to vampires. Vampires are not demons because they are not ruled by the Devil, nor do they have to do his bidding.

But, there are many similarities: Fangs, the ability to fly, living forever, having a poor reaction to religious objects... the list goes on and on.

For my purposes, this relationship was perfect. And, it also gave me something else to torture my main character with.
About the author:
Danielle DeVor spent her early years fantasizing about vampires and watching “Salem’s Lot” way too many times. After living briefly in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, she moved back to her hometown to write. When not writing and reading about weird things, you will find her hanging out at the nearest coffee shop, enjoying a mocha frappuccino.

Danielle has been on a writing roll this year! With the release of Tail of the Devil, Constructing Marcus and Sorrow’s Point she already has three books out.

I love both werewolves and vampires about equally. They both can be incredibly sexy in novels. ^_^: Zombies, not so much.

It's werewolves all the way! I used to be a big vampire fan, and still am to an extent ... but I want someone WARM/HOT up under/over/next to me. Besides, several species of shifters share alpha status, which means they would share a mate ....
