GUEST POST
The Emotions of a New Beginning

I was asked to talk about the emotions associated with beginning a new series.  Well, I hope you like roller coaster rides. Hop in and hang on tight.

First of I’d like to say that Guardians is not only a new series for me, but Eternal Flame is my first ever novel.

First thing that’s needed is thick skin; otherwise you will stop writing and never come back. Writing is the most nerve racking thing I think I have ever done. Having strangers rip your work apart and tell you everything that is wrong will make you question your sanity. Especially since you are the one asking them to do it. Once you make it past the fact that they are not picking on you personally it gets slightly easier. When the first person who actually likes your work and pays you a compliment comes along, you feel like maybe you should stalk them, lol. A puppy waiting for a pat on the head comes to mind.

The submission process will make you go gray. Waiting for weeks to months for rejections you know will come, but praying someone will want your work. Then that glorious moment arrives when you open the email that says congratulations, we would like to offer you a contract. YES! I can tell you that I ran to my husband and squeeled like a little girl. I told my author friends via text and Facebook. I was floating on a cloud. Someone liked my story!

Now you would think that would be the end of the emotional roller coaster. Uh...no. Next comes the wait for the cover. Talk about biting your nails. When the cover arrives you again squeel like a little girl because not only is it hot but your name in on it. Woo Hoo! Now I bet you are thinking the coaster ride is finally done. Ha! Jokes on you.

Next comes the "I can't believe they came while I was on vacation," edits. Yep. Last two days at the beach I spent editing. Finally we are done. Release day is here and your child, your novel is in the hands of readers. Oh what a glorious day it is. Well until the first review. Can I get off this ride now? I think I'm going to hurl. You know you’re bound to get a 2 or 3 star review at some point, but you pray to the fictional gods that it will not be the very first review. 4 stars! Yippee!!! Time to celebrate.

Writing is a bumpy ride, but would I trade it? Not a chance. I love my fictional world and I love the fans. Getting an email from someone who loved your book makes all this so worthwhile. I’m so crazy I decided to do it again. Watch for Fatal Desire, book 2 coming in March.

About the author:
As a child, Valerie would often get into trouble for peeking at her mother’s favorite TV show, Dark Shadows. She can still hear her mother saying “It will give you nightmares.” She was right of course, but that did not stop Valerie from watching. As an adult, her love of the fanged creatures never waned. She would watch any vampire movie she could find.

Being a true romantic, Valerie was thrilled when she discovered the genre of paranormal romance. Her first read was one of Lara Adrian’s, Midnight Breed Series and from there she was hooked.

Today, Valerie has decided to take her darker, sensual side and put it to paper. When she is not busy creating a world full of steamy, hot men and strong, seductive women, she juggles her time between a full-time job, hubby and her two German shepherd dogs, in Northern IL.

The Guardians series sounds so hot and interesting. Two people from different worlds and they only know each other by dreams. This book sounds so interesting.
