EXCERPT

He pulled her into his arms. “You are safe.” He soothed. She pushed her face into his chest and held on tight. “Do you want to talk about it?”

“I had a bad dream.”

“Sounds to me as if it were more than just a nightmare.” He stroked her hair, pulled back his hand. Red sticky liquid covered it. “You’re bleeding.”

“I am?” She touched the wet patch. “Damn.”

He turned her, pushed her head down, flipped her hair over and inspected the cut.

“I think we should get it checked out.”

“It’s just a cut.” She pushed away. “I’ve looked worse.” She reminded him.

“OUCH!” He growled surprised and shoved hard.

“Eeck!” Roll. Thump. She jumped to her feet. “OH, MY GOD!” She looked at the blood seeping out of the puncture marks in his neck. “What have I done?” Horror filled her words as scarlet liquid dripped from her fangs. He moved in her direction. “No!” Her eyes grew misty.

“It was an accident.” He soothed.

“Accident!”

He grinned. “With all the excitement…”

“I bit you!” She sat heavily. Her face in her hands. “I bit you.” She started to sob.

He got of the bed. Walked over and sat on his heels if front of her. Took her hands in his. “It was an accident.” He repeated softly. Tears fell on her bare legs. “Look at me.” he said and tugged loose curls behind her ear

“I am so ashamed,” she said as more tears fell.

He lifted her chin. “You have nothing to be ashamed of.”

“I could have killed you.”

He grinned. “At least I would have died a happy man.” Smack! “Ouch!” Chuckle. Wiping at her tears. “How many men can say…?”

“Stop it.” Her lips twitched.

“I am serious.”

“So am I.” Pulling her to her feet. “How about we take it slower this time.”

She yanked her hands free. “Are you mad?”

“No.” He grinned and pulled her to him. “Lusty, but not mad.”

She leaned away. “Crazy. I mean crazy.”

“For you.” He covered her mouth with his.

She shoved him back. “No!” He frowned. “I will not risk hurting you.” He reached for her. “No.” she said firmly and moved out of reach. “You might be willing to risk it, but I am not.”

“Fine!” He snapped and yanked the door open. “Just so you know. I enjoyed every minute.”

Bang! The door slammed shut. She cringed. Rubbing her tired face, she retrieved her clothes from the floor and dress.

How am I going to explain what happened? She wondered and licked her lips. His taste lingered in her mouth and she licked again. What am I doing? Plopping down in the stone chair, she flicked her wrist. The duvet flew through the air and landed on her lap. His scent filled her nose as she covered herself. I am such a fool. There can never be normal for me.
