Guest Post: Savage Secrets (Titan #4) by Cristin Harber

Description:

When the past is impossible to ignore, love may be the only way to survive.

Caterina Cruz has no home. No loyalties. No objection to exacting torturous revenge. Her life’s mission is to destroy the terrorist who murdered her family. Then she steps into an elaborate game of charades alongside a Titan Group operative posing as an arms dealer—and her newlywed husband. The sexy distraction may be more than she can handle.

Attacked with a psychedelic drug weeks before, Rocco Savage is plagued with hallucinations that threaten his new rank as Titan’s second-in-command. No one knows and he wants to keep it that way. Throwing him further off his game, he now has a wife with her own secrets he can’t crack and an agenda he can’t control.

Their mission—an elaborate deception of heated glances and passionate kisses—spins out of control. With Rocco’s mind already compromised, can he keep his secret and his distance? And with Caterina’s tragic past controlling her every move, can she keep the con up long enough to secure her revenge? Or will both go down in flames?

GUEST POST
How to create powerful male characters

A memorable alpha can make you shiver when you read, make you tummy flip when he delivers swoon-worthy lines, and they come in all forms. Black ops guys, rock stars, billionaire CEOs… The list goes one and one. A powerful alpha characters doesn’t care about the storyline. They leave you fumbling for the next page and praying that there are similar books to one-click. But what makes the memorable so alpha? It isn’t always their killer good looks or OMG moments in between the sheets. It’s something a little more subtle.

A fatal flaw that isn’t…
The character that can save the day usually drips in alpha awesomeness. But what if it’s more personal than just pulling off the white knight routine? What if the hero struggles with an internal conflict that just as complicated and devastating as the storyline’s dark moment? When a characters survives his fatal flaw, beating out the worst kind of internal destruction, readers rally. Their emotional investment in the character and the story is intrinsic to how memorable the happily ever after is.

Caring on the down low
A heart of gold. Yes, that’s a cliché but you know what I mean. Even if he’s the toughest guy in the motorcycle gang or the cowboy with a heart of ice, he had to be able to feel something for someone besides himself, and it can’t just be a physical reaction to his female counterpart. As the story arcs, that smidge of caring should grow, even if no one but the person he loves can see it. The reader buys a good-dude vibe without it feeling awkward or forced.

Sharp dialogue
Personally, this is my favorite. A man that can deliver a witty line wins every time. He gets his point across in a few words, and people take notice. Sometimes characters falter when the hero’s dialogue goes long. If he goes on and on about feeling (love, conflict, etc), the book can go from unbelievable to encouraging the reader to skim. Eeek! Good male dialogue can be shorty and snappy. Bam! Bam! Point after point made in little bites. Delivery is what matters.

One of my favorite powerful alpha male characters is Rocco Savage. He’s second-in-command at Titan Group and has a few issues that may take that away from him. He falls for a woman dead set on vengeance where as he wants justice. On the surface he is simple. He likes to wear jeans or camo, wants to throw a punch when frustrated, and rather protect his woman than let her step into danger. When he’s paired with Caterina Cruz, he’s met his match. Watching all sides of his personality spark to life when she pushes him makes their story SAVAGE SECRETS pop off the pages. I hope you give it a look and let me know what you think about Rocco as a powerful alpha male. I’m available to chat all over social media. Happy reading!
