I am grateful for anything that Rudyard Kipling did. If it weren't for him and his book 'Rikki-Tikki-Tavi,' I would probably not love reading the way I do. He gave me an adventure every night before I went to bed, when I was little, that made me want more adventures as I grew.
The Almond Tree by Michelle Cohen Corasanti. I usually read YA, especially romance and fantasy so it was WAY off topic for me, but now it's among my favourite books :)
As always, I'm grateful for any book. But I guess I'm especially grateful for Eoin Colfer's books because they're my favorites.

I think I am grateful to Bram Stokers Dracula and Mary Shelley's Frankenstein for setting the standard for things that go bump in the night and paranormal, and the storytellers that came before them.
