Never comingle with mortals - Infernal Ice by Joceline Farrah

I just don’t think you can ever mourn a lost long enough. Imagine meeting that special someone and suddenly tragedy rips them from your life. I don’t’ believe there is enough days in a lifetime to fill that void, or to mourn such a loss. You move on because you have to but there’s a part of you that dies with that person and it can never be resurrected.

FROM THE AUTHOR:
Behind the book

Infernal Ice was born of a short story that I initially wrote a few years ago for the 1NS series by Decadent Publishing. As I outlined the short, I kept on getting more and more ideas until I was completely outside of all the submission requirements. Once I outlined Raum Corvus’ character, there was no way this short would see the light of day. Raum Corvus' devilish good looks, charm, wit, and courage swept me off my feet. I knew, from that moment, in order to do him justice as well as his love for Jessa- Belle (the heroine of Infernal Ice) only a novel would do. So I wrote the first draft, edited and revised it until I was teary when I wrote the very last sentence. ..(Yes, I know... I’m so mushyJ)
The next bump in the road was I no longer liked the original title ( Styx and Stones). I played around with the story elements long enough until I got a title I felt was the right fit and of course, I was happy with.
The cover is the work of Kim Killion and it captures every aspect of the novel: my city, the love story and the characters.

EXCERPT and Playlist

“So what’s a deal breaker for you? Raum asked. “The one thing that would make you cut tail if you met your perfect man?

“I hate liars,” Jessa said trying to read Raum’s reaction. No tells. No wonder he was in diplomacy. She swore he must have did a stint with the CIA. ‘cause he had a serious poker face.

“So you’ve never lied to someone you loved to protect them from harm or hurt? He asked.

Jessa shook her head, “I can’t remember the last time I told a lie that wasn’t self serving. In most cases, either I was because afraid of the punishment my dad would dish out or I just didn’t want to get caught. I guess what I’m trying to say is one small lie no matter what your intentions are tarnishes the truth.”

“So the moral of the lesson is liars are magicians ——”

“And magicians are masters of illusions. And what are illusions if not lies.”

He smirked. “Wrong. The lesson is to stay close enough to the truth so you don’t get caught, sweetie.”

Raum laughed. “So just because the man wants to move on with his life you believe he hasn’t mourned his wife long enough? Abaddon and I are not the closest of friends and probably never will be but I don’t think I would deny him the right to happiness.”

“I’m not saying he doesn’t deserve to be happy,” Jessa replied, “I just don’t think you can ever mourn a lost long enough. Imagine meeting that special someone and suddenly tragedy rips them from your life. I don’t’ believe there is enough days in a lifetime to fill that void, or to mourn such a loss. You move on because you have to but there’s a part of you that dies with that person and it can never be resurrected.”

Jessa walked ahead of Raum signaling him to follow in her steps. They stopped at the foot of the Banyan tree. She ran her fingers along the small cracks and rough formations on its surface. She leaned her back against the massive trunk. Raum faced her, his hands tucked into his jean pockets contemplating the tree. She sighed. A few feet from her stood the promise of a new day. A new love.

“Jessa?” Raum said lifting her chin. Their eyes met. She read gentle concern in his. He stepped forward and leaned into Jessa, wedging her between his body and the tree trunk. He trailed his fingers down her arm before intertwining them with hers.

What’s on your mind?” he whispered against her lips

Jessa inhaled. “A lot of things,” she answered looking away.

He cupped Jessa’s face. “Such as”?

Jessa took a deep breath and looked straight into his eyes “I’m debating whether I should exercise caution as I’ve always have and stay on the shoreline where it’s safe or let myself go into the rip current?”

He frowned. “Rip current? I don’t understand. What are you referring to?”

“You…I’m referring to you Raum… You’re the rip current.”

Raum’d been called many things in his life but never had anyone called him a rip current. He understood what Jessa met though. His eyes searched hers. In them, he saw love but also fear. The fear he would disappoint her. She feared he, too, would break her heart. Reaching for her hand, he placed it on his chest where his heart galloped with joy.

“Then I’m asking you to throw caution to the wind and let the current carry you. Don’t be afraid as you slip from the shore. Don’t panic or swim against the tide. Float to me Jessa. I will never let you drown. Let my love be the lifeboat that keeps you safe from the elements and the undertow. Let me be your life support.”
