His interference almost blows her surveillance operation - Running Hot (Bad Boys Undercover 0.5) by HelenKay Dimon

It is amazing how much action is packed into this novella. It is non-stop....and I loved it. I am not sure that everything would have worked like it did in the story in real life but who cares. This story is so much fun. This story had everything a romantic suspense should have - wonderful characters, lots of action, tons of chemistry, and even a few laughs. - Goodreads

Release Date: December 16th, 2014

Camped out at a resort bar in Fiji, CIA operative Ward Bennett may look like he’s on vacation but he’s really deep undercover, hunting a dictator on the run. Ward may be on the job, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t time for the sexy female bartender. That is, until she drugs him.

When Tasha Gregory discovers the hottie on the barstool isn’t who he pretends to be, her MI6 training kicks into gear, and she has no choice but to take him out. Problem is, Ward’s not an easy man to put down for long. More than once, his interference almost blows her surveillance operation—and her ability to keep her heart to herself.

As the situation heats up, these two must decide whether they can trust one another—and quick. Working together might just make everyone safer, but getting close enough for comfort … might just get them killed.

GUEST POST
Get to Know HelenKay

Someone asked me recently to pick my five favorite romances. Honestly, that’s like asking me to pick the five cutest kids in a kindergarten class. Very tough and almost a guarantee I’ll need to add “just one more…” They are all so adorable (when you don’t have to dress them and get them to bed).
One thing that’s easier for me is to name the first three romances I ever read. See, I’m one of THOSE readers. I actually didn’t start reading romance until I was 30. I’d always been an avid reader. My mom instilled that in me. She would buy me any book. I could ask and I would get it. And she was always reading, so I learned by example (thank you mom!).

Before I started writing romance I was a divorce lawyer. Yeah, not the most obvious early career for someone who went on to become a romance author, I know. Worse, I used to specialize in contest custody cases. Not a lot of joy in those. One day another lawyer in my office (who was retiring to go into the music business) handed me three romances and told me what I really needed was a happy ending. I read those books, went and found those authors’ backlists (which were huge, thank goodness) and read all those books and then just kept reading and adding new authors to my “love then” list, until one day I decided to write one. I figured out quickly that was a pretty hard thing to do, but still.

Want to know what those first three romances were? I learned something from each other them and try to use those lessons in my writing, including in the writing of RUNNING HOT.

THE BRIDE by Julie Garwood. I am not a big historical romance reader but I gobbled up Garwood’s Scottish historicals so quickly. I’ve read them all numerous times. I recently had to buy a new copy of THE PRIZE because I read it until the book fell apart in my hands. THE BRIDE has this larger-than-life hero and this tiny but so strong heroine. They banter, they argue, all while I watched him fall in love with her. To this day I’m convinced I love to write the larger-than-life hero because of THE BRIDE.

DANIEL’S BRIDE by Linda Lael Miller. This book has everything. The widowed hero, orphans, a heroine in criminal trouble, death by snake (not kidding), evildoers…honestly, it’s this saga where things just keep happening. But the hero was so hot for the heroine that the attraction leapt off the page. He didn’t just talk about it. I felt it. Now that I write I know infusing that feeling into the writing is tough. I can have Ward in RUNNING HOT talk about how sexy Tasha is, but showing the reader was so much harder, but I think I got it!

PERFECT PARTNERS by Jayne Ann Krentz. I actually read this and WILDEST HEARTS back to back and fell in love with Krentz for life. PERFECT PARTNERS stars a heroine librarian and an overworked CEO hero. I credit this book with starting me down the road of loving businessmen heroes. It also drove home the idea of how strong-willed characters can find their way to each other. In RUNNING HOT, I have a CIA officer heroine and a CIA agent hero. They give new meaning to the phrase strong-willed.

Since reading these books I’ve read what feels like millions more. They represent all I love in romance – strong and determined heroines, flawed yet decent heroes, a bit of suspense, and a feverish love that sweeps the characters away.

Now I need to go re-read them again…
