Review and Giveaway Gargoyle Addiction (Otherworlds Summons #1) by Livia Olteano

REVIEW

From the first time I saw the cover I put the book on the must-read list. Maybe some people will think that it’s a bit shallow, but I grew up in a world of image and for a first contact with a book that I don’t know, it gains importance. Regarding Gargoyle Addiction, the cover and subject match very well.

Just as the title! It is the quintessence of the subject because our both heroes must realize if the passion that they feel for each other is just a dependency induced by "rituals", chemical genetic predispositions or true love and passion. This problem is maintained for the entire duration of the book. In addition, Livia Olteanu successfully outlines a situation in which many readers maybe dream: like to wake up next to the character of a paranormal romance / urban fantasy book you adore. Can you accept not only its qualities, but also the flaws that in your imagination you very easily ignore?

The author has managed to convey the uncertainties, fears and the whole complex of feelings that they main characters feel. Marked by their pasts, with their education and genetic heritage, their actions and messages that easily can be misinterpreted, the specter of a premature death of one of them, they will have plenty to fight for each other and against each other.

All this fighting is peppered with humor and ironic lines, stings and intentional stepping on the tail, and moments of pure passion. The story being told alternately from the point of view of both, the reader will have the complete picture being able to understand them perfectly.

If the first part of the book takes place in our real and ordinary (really?) world, the second part moves in Piatra. A totally different world that risks to break the relationship between the two, destroy them or... kill them. Betrayals, manipulations, wounded prides and needs will be added to the uncertainties of both, pulling and forcing them in all directions.

Now, the previously received information, some offered right from the start and seemed somewhat forgotten, will come together and acquire new meanings. The author has dosed and skillfully used them, and the (theoretical) second part can easily stay next to books written by authors like Ilona Andrews, Jeaniene Frost, Sandy Williams and Karen Marie Moning. I loved it.

The secondary characters, funny or terrific are at the top and you’ll want to get reunited with them, not only with Karla and Kann. (One of them certainly will want to bitch up the whole thing... and to rasp the nerves of everybody around him).

Therefore, I say that more likely you’ll enjoy the book. I cannot wait for the next.

I received the book for review as part of Book Tour - Thank you!

Romanian:

Mi-a plăcut mult.

About the author:
Livia lives in Europe where she listens to obscene amounts of music and devours every reading material in sight. When she’s not doing either of the two, she fiddles with anything remotely customizable within reach.

I really loved your review.
As someone who enjoyed this book immensely myself - you managed to portray everything I TRIED to say in my review.
The author had an amazing ability to describe the characters, settings and situations with ease.
