Review Shaman Warrior by Park Joong-Ki

Again a comics... is not a Japanese manga, but a Korean manhwa.

Today I will present to you the Shaman Warrior by Park Joong-Ki. A fantastic story situated in time and space in a troubled period when everything is was solved with the sword in hand. It’s a dramatic description, even tragic, of the happenings through which the series characters are going, unwillingly caught in the whirl of events. A sad story, full of bloody events, hardships, fierce battles for survival, betrayals, unfulfilled love, but also friendship, devotion, self-sacrifice and heroism.

Shaman ... the word is not used with the meaning we all know, in the sense of medicine man who is communicating with the spirit world. This time it defines a group of warriors created by rulers as a shock troops, an elite one, used in special cases to impose their authority. The problem is that they used a drug that caused them supernatural powers making them unstoppable in the battles. That's why they were used for not honorable chores also. But as always, the payback exists and because the fighters could no longer be mastered, after there was no need for their services, the authorities decided to liquidate them all. And as any misfortune does not come alone, the gift or better say the curse can be hereditary so that entire groups of assassins, bounty hunters and soldiers are not only after the warrior shamans, but also after their offspring.

From this moment the story of Yarong and his faithful servant Batu begins. When his master Yarong is dying, Batu, a former wrestler, feels himself obliged to promise that he’ll take care of his daughter. The story will take place over many years in which the two of them will hide and will always be hunted, the girl will be send to an assassins’ school to lose her tracks and Batu will try all this time to avenge his master. New characters will appear, each of them with an own past, but you will see that nothing is left to chance. Of course that fate will bring them all together at one time and then the rush for survival it will turn into a race for vengeance. How it will end all? I don’t want to spoil the surprise, so I only tell you that it is not like "... and they lived happily ever after”. What do you want, it is a story from the Extreme Orient, and they are a little bit... extremely in love as in war.

It’s a series that some have compared with Blade of the Immortal and, without wanting to make any comparison with it, I do not really think they have much in common. Each of them has its own beauty and uniqueness. Shaman Warrior seemed to be a bit more complex in terms of building characters and relationships. Sure, the national feature influences the series a lot. If Blade of the Immortal had to do with the Japanese’s smoothness and precision (even cruelty in some scenes) in the Korean Shaman Warrior the characters are more passionate, they develops more freely, not constrained by etiquette. And the fights that you’ll get a lot will be more spectacular and intense.

Even if it has (just) nine volumes, the story is well supported without loss of tempo or unnecessary explanations. It is a well-drawn series with a subject to match.

Din nou o serie comics… nu este una japoneză, manga, ci una coreeană, manhwa.

Vă voi prezenta astăzi Shaman Warrior de Park Joong-Ki. O poveste fantastică situată în timp și spațiu într-o perioadă tulbure când totul se rezolva cu sabia în mână. O descriere dramatică, chiar tragică, a întâmplărilor prin care trec personajele seriei ce sunt prinse fără voia lor în vâltoarea evenimentelor. O istorisire tristă, plină de întâmplări sângeroase, privațiuni, lupte încrâncenate pentru supraviețuire, trădări, iubiri neîmplinite dar și camaraderie, devotament, spirit de sacrificiu și eroism.

Shaman... cuvântul nu este folosit în poveste cu sensul de vraci pe care îl știm toți sau de cel ce comunică cu lumea spiritelor, ci definește un grup de războinici creat de stăpânire ca o trupă de șoc, de elită, folosită în cazuri speciale pentru a-şi impune autoritatea. Problema e că se foloseau de un drog ce îi făcea să aibă puteri supranaturale, iar în luptă să fie de neoprit. Tocmai de acea au fost folosiți și pentru treburi nu prea onorante. Dar cum totul se plătește și luptătorii nu mai puteau fi stăpâniți, după ce nu au mai avut nevoie de ei, autoritățile au luat decizia de a-i lichida pe toți. Și cum nicio nenorocire nu vine singură, darul sau mai bine zis blestemul se poate transmite și copiilor astfel încât grupuri întregi de asasini, vânători de recompense, cât și soldați sunt nu doar pe urmele războinicilor șamani, ci și a urmașilor acestora.

Din acest moment începe povestea lui Yarong și a servitorului său credincios Batu. Când maestrul său Yarong este pe moarte, Batu, fost luptător (wrestler am putea spune), se simte obligat să-i promită că va avea grijă de fiica lui. Povestea se va desfășura pe parcursul a mai multor ani în care cei doi se vor ascunde şi vor fi hăituiți permanent, fata va fi trimisă la o școală de asasini pentru a i se pierde urma, iar Batu va încerca în tot acest timp să-și răzbune maestrul. Vor mai apărea personaje, fiecare cu trecutul său, dar veți vedea că nimic nu este la voia întâmplării. Bineînteles că soarta îi va reuni pe toți la un moment dat, iar goana pentru supraviețuire se va transforma într-o cursă a răzbunării. Cum se va termina totul? Pot să vă spun măcar doar atât ca să nu vă stric surpriza: nu este genul „... și au trăit fericiți până la adânci bătrâneți”. Ce vreți, este o poveste din extremul orient, iar acolo totul este un pic cam ... extrem și în dragoste ca și în război.

O serie pe care unii au comparat-o cu Blade of The Immortal și fără să vreau să fac vreo comparație cu ea, cred totuși că nu prea au multe în comun. Fiecare are frumusețea și unicitatea sa. Shaman Warrior mi s-a părut un pic mai complexă din punct de vedere al construcției personajelor și al relațiilor dintre ele. Sigur, caracterul național influențează într-o bună măsură seriile. Dacă în Blade of The Immortal aveam de-a face cu finețea și precizia japoneză (chiar și cruzimea în unele scene), în coreeanul Shaman Warrior personajele sunt mai pasionale, se desfășoară mai liber, nu sunt constrânse de etichete. Și luptele de care veți avea parte din plin vor fi mai spectaculoase și mai intense.

Chiar dacă are (doar) nouă volume, povestea este bine susținută fără pierderi de tempo sau explicații inutile. O serie bine desenată cu un subiect pe măsură.

Carte si Film - Sin City

În continuarea rubricii Carte și Film vreau să vă prezint ceva mai deosebit. În primul rând vreau să spun că nu este un film pentru audiență generală ținând cont că are unele scene destul de dure. Este vorba de Sin City, care se bazează pe trei dintre romanele grafice ale lui Frank Miller și mă refer la The Hard Goodbye, The Big Fat Kill și That Yellow Bastard. Iar dacă vă spun că regia le aparține lui Quentin Tarantino, Robert Rodriguez și Frank Miller cred deja că v-ați făcut o părere despre cum arată pelicula.

Filmul este încadrat în stilul neo-noir și abundă de imagini picturale. Este deosebit tocmai prin modul în care e prezentat în unele momente în format grafic, iar imaginea alb negru accentuează starea de mizerie și corupție din orașul Basin City, şi numai anumite lucruri vor apărea colorate pentru a fi scoase în evidență. Scenele abundă de violență și personaje aflate la marginea societății care fac tot ce pot pentru a supraviețui în acest oraș al pierzaniei, dar se pare că răul se află undeva mai sus pe scara socială. Și cu un astfel de subiect care vine precum o mănușă pe tipologia regizorilor Tarantino și Rodriguez ce credeți că vor face cei doi? Vor veni cu un thriller amețitor în care gloanțele zboară în toate direcțiile, pumnii se împart cu multă generozitate, iar sentimentalismele nu își au rostul. La fel cum unele flori răsar din bălegar, așa și unele personaje abrutizate și dărâmate de vicii își pot regăsi dramul de umanitate ce le va împinge să facă fapte demne de toată lauda și pline de eroism. Asta nu înseamnă că vor fi absolviți de păcate, însă prin acțiunile lor măcar vor putea salva niște suflete din vârtejul grozăviei în care ei s-au înfundat pe veci. Între bestiile ce roiesc și se omoară între ele, găsim un polițist corupt dar care nu se dă în lături pentru a salva o tânără sau un asasin ce e în stare să descopere și să zdrobească chiar cu prețul vieții lui o întreagă filieră de ticăloși ce se întinde până în vârful societății doar pentru a răzbuna femeia pe care o iubea. Mai multe despre subiect nu aș vrea să vă mai dezvălui, ținând cont după cum v-am mai spus că este un pic mai dur pentru unii dintre cititorii noștri. Filmul exercită și o puternică presiune psihologică pe lângă cea vizuală. Realizarea este una de excepție și jocul actorilor este impecabil. Filmul a beneficiat de o distribuție remarcabilă, iar printre actorii care au jucat în film se numără: Bruce Willis, Mickey Rourke,Clive Owen, Elijah Wood, Brittany Murphy, Rosario Dawson, Jessica Alba și mulți alții.

Cât despre cărți, dacă m-ați mai urmărit, ați aflat că Frank Miller este un autor de comics-uri. Participând și la regie vă dați seama că a transpus destul de fidel lucrarea grafică. Din seria Sin City fac parte 7 volume: 

The Art of Sin City este un volum art-cover ce contine si fragmente nepublicate pana atunci.

Pentru cine e interesat de genul noir, recomand filmul cu căldură. Merită să-l vedeți, însă aveți grijă, nu este pentru cei mai tineri dintre voi.

Carte si Film - Walking Dead

Astăzi în continuarea rubricii Carte și Film, vrem să vă prezentăm ceva un pic mai special. Este vorba despre un comics ce a făcut carieră în U.S. și nu numai. The Walking Dead de Robert Kirkman, Tony Moore si Charlie Adlarda apărut pe parcursul a mai multi ani sub formă de revistă lunară dar acum se poate găsi în format carte și sunt în jur de 15 volume. Cu toate că tema nu este nouă, se poate spune că a creat un nou curent. Chiar și denumirea de walking dead adică morți umblători a fost preluată și consacrată în locul vechii denumiri de zombie.

Filmul este de fapt un serial de televiziune din care au fost difuzate două sezoane până acum începând din 2010, iar din octombrie va începe sezonul al treilea. Primele sezoane au apărut deja în format DVD, ultimul chiar luna trecută. Serialul este extraordinar atât prin prisma realizării tehnice și a interpretării actorilor, dar și a modului în care tratează tema. Este neconvențional prin faptul că povestea se axează mai mult pe trăirile și relațiile dintre supraviețuitori decât pe creaturile în căutare de carne umană. Este lupta unor oameni ce s-au trezit într-o lume de coșmar în care și cele mai elementare condiții ale civilizației pe care o cunoaștem au dispărut. Este efortul de a păstra încă o urmă de umanitate, bunătate, milă și compasiune. Impletite cu acestea se regăsesc trăirile normale, obișnuite: dragoste, gelozie, pofte și inhibitii. Bineînțeles că nu se duce lipsă și de ticăloși sau de bestii. Dar ideea este că valorile spirituale ce ne-au făcut să supraviețuim de-a lungul timpului în ciuda tuturor vicisitudinilor, nu dispar atât de ușor, iar acestea reprezintă motorul ce ne face să rezistăm ca specie.

Este remarcabil faptul că presiunea psihologică nu este dată de creaturi ci de emoțiile personajelor. Nu vă speriați, filmul nu abundă în scene groteşti sau sângeroase, morții umblători fiind background-ul filmului, interacțiunea cu ei având loc doar în momentele cheie.


Vizionare plăcută pentru carte, fiind un comics, şi film!

M-am gândit că este sâmbătă, așa că am zis să vă prezint tot o carte din genul comics, tot de Frank Miller și Lynn Varley, ca să vă relaxați cu toate că nu e chiar așa de ușurică. Vă sună cunoscut The Dark Knight de pe ecrane? Daca da, căutați romanele grafice care stau la baza filmului. O să aveṭi o surpriză.

 

Prezentare carte:

Frank Miller este un scriitor American, artist și regizor de film, mai cunoscut pentru benzile desenate în stilul filmului noir. Este unul din cei mai recunoscuți creatori de comics-uri, și unul care a influențat generația sa foarte mult. Cele mai notabile lucrări sunt: Sin City, The Dark Knight Returns, Batman Returns, și 300.

Aceasta este povestea unui războinic de legendă, Ronin, un samurai cu onoarea pierdută și rămas fără stăpân în Japonia medievală a secolului al XIII-lea care primește o a doua șansă ca să răzbune moartea lordului său. Găsindu-se din nou în viață într-un New-York futuristic și corupt al secolului 21, își dă seama că are posibilitatea să-și recapete onoarea. Dar chiar și așa, el trebuie să învingă reîncarnarea ucigașului lordului său, demonul străvechi Agat. 300 de Frank Miller, Lynn Varley

                CCAM și cu mine am decis ca în noul blog pe care cu greu l-am deschis (când ea, când eu nu ne hotăram), postările să fie diversificate, cărṭile să fie din diferite stiluri sau curente, în fine să punem tot ceea ce ne-ar trece prin cap (și ne va plăcea) și v-ar putea interesa și pe voi din punct de vedere artistic vorbind. Știu că l-am denumit Mythical Books, am încercat prima dată Legendary Books dar era rezervat, dar am zis să nu mai schimbăm titlul chiar dacă nu ne vom ocupa exclusiv de cărṭi. Dacă până acum predomină cărṭile (hai că sunt totuși trei zile), după ce ne vom organiza vom încerca să vă prezentăm o paletă mai variată. Așa că, acum vă voi spune despre o carte mai specială, adică un comics (era să scriu manga și a sărit fii-mea cu gura pe mine, ea știe diferenṭa eu habar n-am).

                Despre 300 a lui Frank Miller și Lynn Varley este vorba. Pentru cei care au văzut filmul cu același nume al lui Zack Snyder, cu Gerard Butler, nu mai este nevoie de prezentare. Pentru ceilalṭi subiectul cărṭii este lupta celor trei sute de spartani la Termopile. Chiar dacă este vorba despre benzi desenate, să nu le confundaṭi cu Tom și Jerry. Imaginile sunt la fel de dure ca și în film, vizual e ca și cum aṭi vedea filmul desenat. Știu că la noi nu există o tradiṭie a benzilor desenate, s-a încercat ceva înainte de 1989, dar n-a avut succes; bine aveau și niște subiecte de te durea capul. Însă în vest sunt foarte răspândite de zeci de ani și se adresează tuturor categoriilor de vârstă. Despre subiect cred că nu mai este nevoie să vă spun ceva, ṭinând cont de popularitatea filmului sau pentru că totuși aṭi trecut cu toṭii prin clasa a V-a și aṭi învăṭat la istorie.

                V-o recomand ca pe ceva mai special sau dacă sunteṭi pasionaṭi...
