Concurs RO Fericirea mea esti tu de Jamie McGuire

Descriere editura:

Continuarea mult aşteptată a bestsellerului New York TimesFericirea începe azi

Fiecare poveste are două versiuni.

-- Bookwhisperer Reviews

Am făcut o adevărată pasiune pentru personajele acestui roman." -- The Daily Quirk

“What’s a nice girl like you doing in a place like this?” His deep voice matched his muscular body.

I lifted a brow, an amused smile spreading across my face.

Seriously?

That was the oldest pick up line in the book. Even I knew that.

“You really want an answer to that?” I shoved my empty glass toward him.

“Only if you really want to tell me.” The emphasis on the word ‘really’ sounded strange in his heavy German accent.

“But otherwise, if you just want to talk to me about the weather, that’s fine too.” He grinned.

I came to the bar for a drink, to drown my sorrows. Not to pick up men.

“I don’t really care for the weather.” I smirked.

“So I see.” His blue eyes glistened as I knocked back the third shot of tequila he’d placed in front of me.

I squinted at his name badge. “Listen Kurt, I'm not here for therapy. Save that for some other fool.”

I shifted the empty glass back over the counter. “Be a good boy and fill her up again.”

“That will be your last tequila,” he said, one eyebrow raised. “Responsible serving of alcohol.” He shrugged. “I would have to take your keys away too if you were driving.”

I cursed under my breath. Can't a girl just get drunk in peace?

“I'm walking,” I said as I slung back the fourth tequila, pulling a face as it burned down my throat.

“Good luck with that.” He gave me a knowing smile that didn’t reach his eyes.

Been there, Kurt?

“What can you serve me next?” I remained optimistic that I’d get another drink out of the broad-shouldered barman.

“How about water?” he asked, sarcasm lacing his voice.

“Water?” I spluttered, “That’s for fish.”

He laughed. “Yes, and fish don’t have hangovers the next morning.”

“Don’t you worry about my hangover.”

Who is he – my father?

“I can offer you a glass of white wine if you promise to drink it slowly –” His expression was deadly serious.

I cringed. Wine was the last fucking thing I wanted. It reminded me of a Frenchman I wanted to forget. Of our times together.

“No wine.” I pouted like a spoilt brat.

“OK, I’ll make you my special concoction. You’ll love it.” He reached for the shaker on the counter. This looked promising.

“As long as it has hard liquor in it.” Was I slurring ever so slightly?

Taking a few bottles from the shelf, he poured some of each into the shaker. I watched as he carefully measured one shot of vodka.

“That’s all the alcohol I get? You’re mean.” I wrinkled my nose. How was I going to get wasted if he wouldn’t give me more alcohol?

“You will thank me in the morning.”

“I doubt it.” I took a sip, detecting cranberry juice. Healthy too. What the hell. This is a bar, not a frigging health club.

“I can't give you another one for a while, so go slow –”

He left me to nurse my drink. Men! I rolled my eyes. They were all the same. Controlling – always telling me what to do.

Screw that.

The next guy I hooked up with would be on my terms. I’d be the one in control. I’d had my fucking heart broken one too many times. I was well and truly over serious relationships.

I stared into my glass. This ‘falling in love thing’ was just not for me. Maybe I was destined to be alone. There was a word for that. Spinster. At the ripe old age of twenty nine. ‘Old maid’ was what my mother would call it. She’d be disappointed if I didn’t produce the statistical 2.6 grandchildren she was looking forward too. Oh well, she had Chloe and Lily, my younger sisters to provide the grandma experience.

Count me out of this one. Fuck all men.

I grimaced as I finished the last of my drink and stared at my empty glass with longing. Kurt had said to go slow. Damn.

Sneak Peek of The Impostor,
A Love Story by Tiffany Carmouche- ©2012

…I brought the orders to the bar, knowing that Brad would torment me about the song Dylan was singing for me.
“Can I have eight Buds, two martinis, a glass of white zin, and three shots of Jose Cuervo?”
“I think that’s a little excessive, even for you. Look at you, you’re blushing.”
“Shut up, Bradley.”
“He wrote you a song. Is that what it takes? I think maybe I will take guitar lessons.”
“Shut up, Bradley.”
Dylan was still singing. I was still blushing. I tried to ignore Brad and turned back to the stage. The song was almost over, and I wanted to savor every moment of it. No one had ever done anything like this for me before.
“And we wonder why he always gets the girl. You know every girl in this place hates you right about now. It’s bad enough he likes you, but he’s singing a song for you.”
“Shut up, Bradley! Just give me the drinks.” I proceeded over to the customers with a full tray, all my attention savoring Dylan’s every word. He was staring into my eyes, and I was gazing into his. I didn’t even notice the tiny step down into the lower level. My foot twisted and drinks flew through the air as I fell to the ground. So graceful. Shit. I was covered in tequila and martinis. I scanned the room, completely humiliated, praying nobody had seen me, but realizing on a slow night like tonight, everyone had.
Dylan stopped playing for a second, but when he realized I was all right, he winked at me with a grin. One of the customers sitting at a nearby table helped me up.
“You okay, miss?”
“Just incredibly mortified.” I picked at my wet clothing, trying to unstick my shirt from my body. He scrambled to help me pick the glasses up off the floor.
“Thank you so much.”
“You sure you are okay?”
“I’m fine, thank you.” I snuck back to the bar. Now not only was I bright red, but completely self-conscious.
“That was classic. You fell with such grace,” Brad picked at me.
“Shut up, Bradley. Oh my god, that was so embarrassing.”
“Are you kidding? It made my night.”
“You are such a jerk. Give me some new drinks, please.”
“You sure you can handle them with pretty boy on the stage?”
“Bradley, shut up! Can I get off after this? It’s slow and I’m all sticky.”
“It’s almost closing. You can handle thirty more minutes. There are only three of you. Besides, if I let you go home before he gets off stage, Dylan will kill me. He is bigger than I am, so that wouldn’t be good.” He tried to lighten my mood.
“Please? I feel so gross.”
“You are cute wet. Now give those customers their drinks. And you are cut off.” He smiled. He knew I hadn’t had anything to drink.
As I made my way across the floor, hoping no one would notice me, I glanced to the stage.
Dylan winked at me again, mouthing, “You okay?”
I just nodded, even though I was probably damaged for life. I just wanted to go home. Let me hide for the next . . . eternity. Why wouldn’t Brad let me leave? It was only thirty minutes. Emily could handle the pitiful crowd.
“Thank you all. We will see you Tuesday night.” Oh, shit. They were getting off the stage. I dashed over to the bar.
“Brad, I gotta go. Can you call me a cab?” Cabs didn’t fill the parking lot on Sunday nights the way they did on other weekend nights.
Right then I felt Dylan’s muscular arms wrap themselves around me as his warm body pressed against mine, trapping me at the bar. He moved my sticky hair away from my neck and his tongue gently savored it. “Mmm, you taste like Tequila. I couldn’t wait to get off stage and taste you. You looked so delicious.”
“That was so embarrassing.” I turned in his arms, facing him.
“I’m just glad you are all right. You fell with grace, I have to say.” Dylan smiled—such a lie. My legs and arms had gone hurling through the air with all of the alcohol.
“Yeah, right.” I lowered my head, totally horrified.
“You are so adorable when you blush.” He lifted my chin. “You really do taste good. I can’t wait to get you out of this place and get you home. We’ll have to get you out of those sticky clothes.”
I playfully smacked him. “You’re so bad.”
I searched for a way to say goodnight, but I couldn’t with him so close. I didn’t want to break free of his arms. I wished I could stay there forever. They felt so safe.
“I can’t go home with you, Dylan. I’m sorry.”
“Yes, you can. I promise not to bite.” He kissed my neck.
I pulled away from him a little bit. “I’m not ready to do anything. If you don’t want to go out tomorrow I understand.”
He pressed his finger over my mouth. “Shh, I just want to be with you. If you’re not ready, then I will wait.”   ~Sneak Peek into The Impostor, A Love Story by Tiffany Carmouche ©2012

Sneak Peek into a scene of Becoming Invisible, the third book in The Alaskan Heart Saga. By Tiffany Carmouché ©2013

Dylan

The light peeking through the curtain of the tiny cabin squeezed through the cracks of Dylan’s eyes. Morning. He tried to roll over onto his side and realized his hand was caught. He yawned, trying to dislodge it and became conscious that both hands were trapped.

What the hell! His hands, they were tied to the bed. He glanced down. His naked body was fuckin’ tied to the bed! Nicole. Nicole was gone. Shit. What the hell happened?

He struggled to break free of the binding, but it tightened as he wrestled with it, cutting off the circulation in his hands. Where the hell is she? Steve captured her. Oh my god! He has her! How the hell did he sleep through it?

Dylan scanned the room for signs of blood, signs of a struggle. She was gone. Steve captured Nicole! He yanked, tugging at the binding. His wallet? His wallet rested open on the dresser in front of him. What the fuck is going on? His eyes drifted to the floor. His clothes were gone. All of them. There was no sign Nicole had even been there. Was he drugged? Why didn’t he wake up?

He thrust his body to the side, trying to break the binding again, throwing his shoulder out of its socket. Ahh. Pain shot through him. He gritted his teeth. He had to find Nicole. He had to save Nicole! Despite the pain, he tried again, propelling his body over. Ouch. He eased back, trying to force his shoulder back into its socket with his body weight.

He must have been drugged. What time is it? He looked over at the digital clock, Six am. What time did we go to sleep?

Dammit! The stabbing pain in his shoulder intensified with every movement. Snap. His face contorted as the shoulder finally jammed back in place.

A shadow passed by the window. Too big to be Nicole. The figure hovered by the door, taunting him. He’s back. He tugged. He pulled. I have got to get up.

The person fidgeted with the doorknob. Someone was trying to come in. He heaved his arm forward again and fractured the wood on the bed frame. He jerked his arm forward again. He had to break free. He had to break free. © 2013 Becoming Invisible

Nicole

I couldn’t help it. I stared at him in partial disbelief. What did he see in me? What did this beautiful Roman God see in me? My hand brushed against his and his fingers played with mine, lacing our hands together, as he ran his thumb over skin.
He gazed down at me. Butterflies danced inside me, but it made no sense. I had made love to him only hours before, but still his touch, his gentle, non-sexual touch, excited me and a chill prickled my spine.
“Where is everyone?” Dylan glanced at his cell. “I can’t wait to tell them the news.” He bubbled with enthusiasm. God, he was so adorable.  The light cast a shadow on his muscular physique, still apparent in his tight shirt even though his jacket hid much of it. He truly looked like he belonged in an art museum. Only the work of a master could have chiseled every line so perfectly. His sculpted cheek bones revealed his smile as his powerful torso pulled me near.
He towered over me, so strong and intimidating, but so full of playfulness. .. ©2013 Becoming Invisible

Bradley

He fidgeted, looking around the kitchen. He had to look natural. How could he pretend that he wasn’t sitting around all morning holding his breath, waiting for that door to open and her to emerge?
“Good morning.” She entered the kitchen. She stretched. The oversized t-shirt he let her borrow lifted, revealing a little more of her thigh.
He needed to stay focused. She was Dylan’s girl. She was Dylan’s girl. “So you decided to rise from the dead?”
“Maybe. I’m not sure I’m completely alive yet, but nothing a cup of coffee can’t cure.” She jumped up on the counter, letting her legs dangle off of it.
He walked over to the coffee pot and poured her a cup, shoveling sugar in it and adding just enough milk to make it a rich caramel color. He walked over to the front of her. Her hair was tossed around and her face was bare of make-up. So fresh. So kissable. He handed her the cup.
Her hands cradled it. “Mmm, so warm.” She brought the cup to her face, breathing in the scent and then took a sip. “Oh my God, Bradley, this is perfect.”
“Yeah, I have to make it extra strong so you can still taste the coffee with all that stuff you smother it with. So when I drink it black, I almost have a heart attack.”
“Come here.” She clutched his shirt, pulling him closer. “Close your eyes.” He felt the cup touch his lips and she lifted it so the warm sweetness filled his mouth. It was good. Oh my God, it was delicious. Sinful like. He opened his eyes.
“Perfection, right?” She raised her eyebrows.
He brought his hands up and covered hers, bringing the cup back to his lips to get another sip. “This is good.”  He stole the cup from her hands.
“Hey, that’s my coffee.”
“Not anymore.” He stepped back with the mug in his hand.
“Get your own.” She jumped off the counter. She wasn’t wearing a bra, so her breasts bounced as she hit the floor. What the hell was she trying to do to him?
He took another sip. “Oh my God, this is like heaven.”
“Bradley, it’s mine.” She rushed over to him and he lifted the cup out of her reach. She raised her arm and tried to grab it, but she couldn’t. She jumped up, trying to steal the cup. “You are so mean!” Her body slightly rubbed against his as she fought him for the coffee. His heart began to beat faster. She smelled so good. He laughed at her failed attempts.
Then all of a sudden, she rushed to the sink and picked up a glass, filling it with water. Before he knew what was going on, she threw it in his face. “Holy shit!” He stumbled back, stunned.
“This is war.” She grabbed the black hose connected to the counter and turned the cold water on full blast.
“Nikki, what the hell are you doing?” he pleaded as she squirted him. “That’s freezing!” He put his hand out blocking the spray of water, and put the coffee cup on the counter.
She dropped the hose and ran for the cup. Picking it up, she rushed into the living room, tracking the water through the house.
“You’re crazy.” He shut off the water and ran after her.
“Don’t mess with my coffee.” She grinned, savoring her sip, as she stood protected on the other side of the couch. He lunged left and she lunged right, and as he rushed around the couch, she climbed over the top and ran to a chair in the dining room, jumping up on it.
“Now who’s too short?” She lifted the cup out of his reach. Most of the coffee had spilled out, but it was the principle of the thing.
“You forget - I’m stronger than you.” He picked her up by her legs. They were covered in goose bumps. She grabbed onto his hair, laughing hysterically as he carried her back into the kitchen.
“Stop. I’m sorry. You can have it.”
“It’s too late now. You’re in for it.” He set her down in the kitchen next to the sink and pinned her against the cabinet. Grabbing the hose, he turned the water on full blast and held the hose directly over her head.
“That’s freezing! Oh my God, Bradley. Ahh. Oh my God. That is cold!” She reached for the hose but it was too high. She squirmed to get unpinned, but he had trapped her. She reached over and shut off the water. As he reached to turn it on, she grabbed at the hose, they wrestled, and he slipped and fell onto the wet floor. She placed her bare foot on his chest, lifting her arms like a heavy weight champion. He tried not to look at the wet t- shirt clinging to her body or the beautiful thigh that pinned him down. She pulled out the hose gun and aimed it at him. “Do you give up?”
“I do. You win. You crazy woman. You win!”
“Don’t mess with my coffee.” She reached down to help him up.
He had a good mind to pull her down in the puddles and roll over on top of her. God he wanted her. Feisty woman!
As he stood, he looked around the kitchen. “Look what you’ve done.”

“Me? You were the one who stole my coffee. That’s the last time I’m sharing with you.”

Out of the Shadows

As some of you know, I, like Nicole in The Alaska Series, escaped an abusive relationship.

I NEED YOU! This is something that is really close to my heart! ~Tiffany

In October of 2014, the inaugural Out of the Shadows Conference will be held in the Nation's Capital Washington DC. This event is to showcase women who have survived abuse and began their lives over. The hope is it will give courage to women who are contemplating taking a step out of the shadows. We will have it all; an awards night for survivors, indie authors, bloggers, hot men, self defense classes, a dance party, and MORE! It will be a celebration of hope! If you are interested in volunteering to help make this event amazing, attending or finding out how you can nominate someone who has stepped out of the shadows and begun their life over, please email me. I am looking for a dedicated, fun and resourceful team to make this event amazing! If you are interested in helping in any way, please let me know.

I am writing an anthology featuring stories of people who have been through a physically, or mentally abusive relationship and survived. It will be a book compiled of our stories. EXCERPT

He pulled the car over to the side of the road and parked it. A heavy silence grew between us. The rain thrummed against the roof of his car and my heart stuttered anxiously against my ribs, like a hummingbird flapping its tiny wings.

He took a deep breath and his voice was thick when he said, “If I misled you…”

My heart stopped, and I blinked at him as heat filled my face. He hadn’t misled me. The feelings I had for him were one hundred percent my own doing. I should have known better.

“I’m not available,” he continued, “the way you want me to be.”

What did he mean, the way I wanted him to be? Any way I could be with him would be fine. Anything was better than not speaking at all. And then the pieces came together: gorgeous and unavailable. He had a girlfriend. Oh God! Why hadn’t I seen the signs before? He didn’t flirt with anyone because he was in love with someone else.

Not caring about the rain, I opened the door and dashed out of the car.

Michael caught up with me and grabbed my arm. I pulled it away.

“It’s wet,” he said. “I’ll take you home.”

Tears burned my eyes, making me grateful for the heavy rain that washed them away, cooling my skin. “I’ll walk.”

“Come on,” he said, “don’t be foolish. You’ll catch a cold.” A wet strand of hair clung to my face. He brushed it aside, so gently, and a deep current trembled through me, compelling me toward him. It was all I could do to hold my ground. His eyes widened and he stepped back. In that moment, I knew he felt it too.

I glared at him. How dare he touch me? Why did he care? Why did he pay attention to me at all?

He shook his head sadly. “Mia, I’m…”

Taken. I know. I shook my head, not wanting to hear any more, and there was this look he gave me, a mixture of pain and something else—something forbidden—that made me want to kiss the rain from his lips.

Michael leaned against a nearby rock, still watching me. With the orange-cast light from the street lamp playing off his skin, shadowing the muscles of his shoulders and arms, and the flickering of golden light his halo cast around him, he looked positively heroic, like a statue of an ancient god.

“Where to now?” I asked, approaching him.

The wind had swept his hair into a tangle of curls splayed in every direction, forming a dark, shadowy crown of their own. I reached over to smooth it, as if doing so was the most natural thing in the world, and he brushed his hand up my spine. Even through my jacket, a burning heat coursed through me. Touching the back of my head, he found my braid and pulled it out. He twisted it between his fingers, examining it, then looked up at me, his gaze open, unguarded, his pupils as wide and black as the night sky. A flush warmed the back of my neck and I stood there mesmerized by him, unable to look away.

Arcing his other arm around me, he pulled me toward him and whispered, “I shouldn’t,” against the side of my face, as though it were a confession. Then, his lips cool and salty from the sea air, he kissed me with such tenderness it made my chest ache.

But I didn’t need tenderness. I needed him. Since the last time we’d kissed, I’d been so careful around him, trying not to cross the invisible line that would either damn him or scare him away. I couldn’t be careful anymore. Gripping the front of his shirt, I pulled him closer, and he locked his arms around me like I’d always wanted him to, like maybe he’d never let me go. Sitting on the rock, he gathered me into him, sliding me onto his lap. My thighs straddled his hips and he let out the softest of moans, his lips grazing my throat, the side of my neck, the line of my jaw, before returning to mine.

With a sharp inhale, he tensed and stopped kissing me. His eyes flashed a warning look—full of fear, as though he’d gone somewhere fathomless inside himself that he’d sworn he’d never go. Standing, he guided me off his lap. When he spoke, his voice took on a deep timbre.

“We’re not alone.”

My Date From Hell (The Blooming Goddess Trilogy #2) by Tellulah Darling

Description:

Sophie Bloom’s junior year has been a bit of a train wreck. After the world’s greatest kiss re-awakened Sophie’s true identity as Persephone (Goddess of Spring and Savior of Humanity), she fought her dragon-lady guidance counselor to the death, navigated mean girl Bethany’s bitchy troublemaking, and dealt with the betrayal of her backstabbing ex, Kai (sexy Prince of Darkness). You’d think a girl could catch a break.

Yeah, right.

With Zeus stepping things up, it’s vital that Sophie retrieve Persephone’s memories and discover the location of the ritual to stop Zeus and Hades. So when Aphrodite strikes a deal that can unlock Sophie’s pre-mortal past, what choice does the teen goddess have but to accept?

The mission: stop media mogul Hermes from turning Bethany into a global mega-celebrity. The catch? Aphrodite partners Sophie and Kai to work together … and treat this suicide mission as a date. Which could work out for Sophie’s plan to force Kai to admit his feelings for her–if she doesn’t kill him first.

Add to that the fact that BFF Theo’s love life and other BFF Hannah’s actual life are in Sophie’s hands, and suddenly being a teenager—even a godlike one—seems a bit like … well, hell. Whatever happened to dinner and a movie?

The YA romantic comedy/Greek mythology fireworks continue to fly in My Date From Hell. Love meets comedy with a whole lot of sass in book two of this teen fantasy romance series. Breaking up is easy; dating is deadly.

EXCERPT

Aphrodite pointed her gun at me again, kind of casually. “Your problem is you’re too hung up on the past. You gotta move forward with yer life.”

I heard Hannah give a smothered laugh.

“You got this cutie pie in love with ya, and instead of enjoying his company, all you do is whine.” With a quick flick, Aphrodite opened the cylinder to reload.

“He’s not in love,” I said.

She peered at Kai. “Whattya talkin’ about? Sure he is. Everyone knows Kyrillos loves Persephone.”
“I’m Sophie,” I ground out.

She waved the gun around. “Ya ya. That too.”

That too? I took a deep breath, folded my fingers over my palms and looked slightly to the left of her in case I accidentally started blasting. Didn’t want to go down in history as the girl who killed the Goddess of Love.

“Nope. It’s just desire,” I said with faked calm. “Kai is so resistant to the idea of being in love with me that your arrows don’t work. Besides which, when he actually does fall so hard for me that he doesn’t know which way is up, I want him to know he chose that of his own free will. That he chose me.” I threw him a sweet smile.

“Chose you?” Kai got this look of “have we had this conversation before?” on his face. My smile got tight.

Aphrodite scooped up a saclike pink purse laying on the ground. She rooted around in it. “Desire is part of romantic love, silly,” she said to me.

She pulled out a handful of bullets and dumped them in Festos’ hurriedly outstretched hands before turning back to Kai. She gestured with the still-open chambered revolver toward him. “Your body knows what’s what. Stop fighting it.”

Kai glowered at her.

She laughed it off, reloading. “And you,” Aphrodite said to me, as she plucked more bullets from Festos’ hand to load into the chamber. “Yer just as bad with your own issues.”

She couldn’t know about my insecurities around Persephone could she? Aphrodite narrowed her eyes at me.

I gulped.

Aphrodite shot me a look of disgust and popped the final bullets into the chambers. She gestured at each of us in turn with one pink, sparkly manicured finger. “I’m gonna start gettin’ real mad about how youse is all dealin’ with love.”

“There’s a whole bunch of drags around here where love is concerned,” Festos agreed.

“Thanks so much for inviting him along,” Theo said to me.

I grimaced an apology at Theo, then shot back at Festos, “Seems there’s a whole bunch of dogs here, too.” I looked between him and Kai.

“Oh don’t forget Pierce,” Festos replied cheerfully. “He’s a total mimbo.” “He is not,” Hannah defended. “He’s pure love.”

Aphrodite threw her a fond smile. “I like you, girlie.” “Love in name, hormones in game,” Theo countered. “Look at us all in agreement,” Festos replied.

“No, because you’re talking about lust,” I protested.

“Lust is pretty good too,” Aphrodite said, “but it ain’t nothin’ like the real thing.” She clicked the cylinder into place and looked at me. “We got a deal? You’ll get Jack to kill the campaign?”

“You’ll undo the love thing?” I asked.

“Nope. You could do with a little love in your life. Kyrillos is obviously brimming with love for ya now,” she ignored Kai’s snort, “so you’re gonna enjoy it.”

“Meaning what?” I asked.

“A date,” Kai piped up. “I’d say I’m ready now.” He arched an eyebrow as if to say “ball’s in your court.”

“I think it’s a great idea,” I slid my arm around his waist and pressed myself up against his side.

A look of surprise flashed across his face. “Perfect.”

I could outdate him any place, any time. I brightened. This was going to be fun. The touching part wasn’t a downside either.

“The fate of the world does dee-pend on you loving each other,” Aphrodite said. “So, good. We’ll start with a date.”

“Still say it’s a euphemism,” Festos burst out. “And Kai doesn’t date.”

Kai snaked his arm around my waist before pressing his fingertips into my hip. “Never wanted to before. Sophie’s the exception.”

“The euphemistic exception?” Festos asked. “Shut up,” Kai and I fired at him in tandem.

Festos took it in stride, waggling his eyebrows cheerfully at Theo who pretended to look disapproving but totally wasn’t. Even Hannah didn’t bother to hide her smile.

“Only thing is,” I told Aphrodite, “I have to be back at school by Sunday morning. I have a meeting I can’t miss. So I’ll have to get this thing with Jack done quickly to have time for the date.”

“Going together to find Hermes is the date.” Aphrodite looked at me like I was an idiot. “You two need as much together time as possible.”

No way. I needed all my wits about me to handle Kai. Something that couldn’t happen if I had to track down Hermes at the same time. I tried a new tactic. “A date involves dinner and a movie. Something romantic. Finding Hermes hardly counts.”

She pinned me in her gaze. “Had so miny of them, Miz Expert? All a date is, is two people spendin’ time to deepen their attraction.”

“Or kill it,” Hannah piped up.

Aphrodite scrunched up her nose. “Huh?”

“There are far more first dates than second,” Hannah explained. “Which means that after spending time, those people realized they were not a match.”

“What she said,” I seconded.

Aphrodite narrowed her eyes at Hannah. “I don’t get ya. You talk like that but you’re so brim up with love.”

“I’m a confounding enigma,” Hannah replied cheerfully.

Aphrodite threw her hands up. “Enough’a this nonsense. You’ll go together to find Hermes. And you’ll be date-like doin’ it.”

That sounded like a threat.

“Almost like you planned it that way,” I said to Kai.

His smile grew wider as he gave my waist a squeeze. “Told you I get what I want. Feel free to let that sink in.”
