REVIEW:
If you want to love werewolves, to see why they are some of the most splendid (physically and psychologically) species, then you must read Caged by JA Belfield.
Caged remembered me that for a long time the werewolves were my favorites. Forgotten somehow on the second place, because of many other fantastic races encountered, now, thanks to this author they resumed their place of honor.
That's because of Ethan, the main character; he is all that can be the best of its breed. Born and grew to become the alpha, he is good, concerned about the welfare and safety of its pack members or friends thereof, and he’s able to sacrifice his own life for them. That's leaving aside the fact that it is one of the most handsome and strong characters and apparently very smart. I really liked how he objectively and very funny evaluates his own limits and the way he accepts them, but at the same time seeking to overcome them. Oh, however, it must be said that although he is bloated with real, well above average qualities, Ethan is within normal limits of naivety when it comes to the subject of his love ... This naivety gives to men a sweet air of vulnerability which only advantages them and make us like them even more (or to want to give them a slap on the head to come to their senses and stop wasting time).
Although the premises are bleak, the disappearance and apparent kidnapping for reasons difficult to determine of some individuals belonging to different species, the beginning of the volume gives you plenty opportunities to smile from ear to ear. At least I did it. There are small dashes, a pinch of spices, but that will catch and make you to cherish the book and the characters. Unless that you loved them already from the previous volumes (which I have not read them YET).
Then the plot thickens and we find ourselves driven to a world where humans and supernaturals found one of the most nefarious ways to collaborate. Put in a position to save himself, but especially those he cares about or more correctly all those who are captive, Ethan will prove he deserves our love and admiration.
And in all of this awfulness the author very skillful peppers the dust of humor, danger of death, hope and despair, secrets and unknown, and testing some prejudices (eg the hate between dogs and cats), giving flavor and offering to the reader a variety of feelings and tastes.
I particularly liked the fact that the romance is only the part which indicates what is about to be lost, emphasizing the despair, feelings of failure and disappointment that Ethan tries. The book’s action is centered on the suspense and the fight for survival. This is my favorite type of composition!
It looks like I talked more about Ethan than about the book in general, but he is the backbone of it, and I think we ought to have more volumes with him, especially since the author has opened the door to new and promising adventures.
I’m often reluctant to recommend a book or series, because, eh, we have different tastes, but I'm sure that the chances for you to love Caged (and the series if it's in the same style) are very, very high.
I know I love it and I put Caged on my favourite books shelf!

Dacă vreţi să vă placă vârcolacii, să vă convingeţi de ce sunt unele dintre cele mai spendide (fizic şi moral) specii, atunci trebuie să citiţi Caged de J.A. Belfield.
Caged mi-a adus aminte că mult timp vârcolacii au fost preferaţii mei. Uitaţi oarecum pe un loc doi din pricina multor altor rase fantastice întâlnite, acum, datorită autoarei şi-au reluat locul de onoare.
Asta pentru că Ethan, personajul principal, este cam tot ceea ce poate fi cel mai bun pentru rasa sa. Născut şi crescut pentru a deveni alpha, el este bun, preocupat de binele şi siguranţa membrilor haitei sale sau a prietenilor acesteia, în stare de a îşi sacrifica propria viaţă pentru aceştia. Asta lăsând la o parte faptul că este unul dintre cele mai arătoase şi mai puternice personaje şi după toate aparenţele inteligente. Mi-a plăcut foarte mult modul în care îşi evaluează în mod obiectiv şi foarte amuzant limitele şi modul în care le acceptă, dar în acelaşi timp caută să le depăşească. Aaa trebuie spus totuşi că, deşi îmbuibat de calităţi reale cu mult peste medie, Ethan se păstrează în limitele normale ale naivităţii când vine vorba de obiectul iubirii sale... Naivitatea asta le dă bărbaţilor un aer dulce de vulnerabilitate care nu face decât să-i avantajeze şi să ne placă şi mai mult (sau să vrem să le dăm o palmă după ceafă să le vină mintea la cap şi să nu mai piardă timpul).
Deşi premisele sunt sumbre, dispariţia şi aparent răpirea pentru motive greu de stabilit a unor persoane ce aparţin unor specii diferite, în prima parte a volumului ţi se oferă multe ocazii să zâmbeşti cu gura până la urechi. Cel puţin eu am făcut-o. Sunt elemente mici, un praf de condimente, dar care te vor prinde şi care te vor face să îndrăgeşti cartea şi personajele. Asta dacă nu le iubeai din volumele anterioare (pe care eu nu le-am citit ÎNCĂ).
Apoi gluma se îngroaşă şi ne trezim duşi într-o lume în care oamenii şi supranaturalii au găsit una dintre cele mai mişeleşti metode de a colabora. Pus în situaţia de a se salva pe sine, dar mai ales pe cei la care ţine sau mai corect spus pe toţi cei captivi alături de el, Ethan va dovedi că merită să-l iubim şi admirăm.
Şi în toată grozăvia asta autoarea aruncă foarte priceput praful de umor, pericolul de moarte, speranţa şi deznădejdea, secrete şi necunoscut, verificarea unor prejudecăţi (de exemplu a urii dintre câini şi pisici) dând savoare şi oferind cititorului o varietate de sentimente şi gusturi.
Mi-a plăcut în mod deosebit faptul că romance-ul este doar acea parte care indică ce este pe cale să piardă, accentuând disperarea, sentimentele de eşec şi dezamăgire pe care Ethan le încearcă. Acţiunea cărţii este centrată pe suspans şi pe lupta pentru supravieţuire. Acest tip de compoziţie este preferatul meu!
Se pare că am vorbit mai mult despre Ethan decât despre carte în general, dar el este coloana vertebrală a acesteia şi cred că ar fi cazul să mai avem volume cu el, mai ales că autoarea a deschis calea unor noi şi promiţătoare aventuri.
De multe ori am reţineri în a recomanda o carte sau serie, pentru că, nu-i aşa, putem avea gusturi diferite, dar sunt sigură că şansele să vă placă Caged (şi seria dacă e în acelaşi stil) sunt foarte, foarte mari.
Mie mi-a plăcut foarte mult!
