GUEST POST
What if you could visit the world of your favorite book?

Do you have a treasured favorite book you return to repeatedly? A vivid world where you can escape the pressures of daily life and immerse yourself in a safe haven for a few blessed hours? Do you fantasize about diving into the pages and being transported into your beloved characters’ lives?

Recently, I traveled to Ireland and the primary reason for my visit was to experience the town I’d become intrigued with several years ago when I read Nora Roberts’ Gallagher’s trilogy set in Ardmore, a tiny village in Southern Ireland. Confession: I’ve read the series at least five times. Okay, ten. Maybe a dozen. Who’s counting?

The Gallagher siblings and their love stories stole my heart and captured my imagination. In tough times, I retreat to their world, filled with Irish history and legend, raw beauty, and the pull of a simpler life. Inside the book, the history of St. Declan and a medieval Round Tower preside over the seaside town with verdant hills dotted with sheep and dreamy watercolor skies. Was I risking disappointment, like when another favorite book was made into a movie and the actors were completely miscast?

As I descended the curving road into town, the raw natural beauty overwhelmed me. Pearly clouds peppered the bright blue sky and emerald green hills crisscrossed with meandering low-stone walls shimmered in the afternoon sun. The Round Tower perched on the hillside, exactly how it looked in my imagination. Panoramic sea views, razor sharp cliffs, and brightly painted cottages made it seem like I’d stepped into a painting and become part of the fabric of an enchanted world.

The scenery surpassed my expectations and the palpable whisper of history was undeniable once I walked the paths my beloved characters walked and absorbed every sweet flowery scent, salty breeze, and hint of magic that permeates Ardmore. Luckily, the real world met and exceeded my vision. I’ll be revisiting my favorite trilogy again.

As an author, I aspire to create a world where my readers can be transported. My Finding Forever in Laguna series takes place in Laguna Beach, California. I chose a real city to provide a sense of authenticity and set scenes in real places, like the Ranch at Laguna Beach and Thalia Street Beach. Within town, I also created fictional spots, like hero Brandt Dempsey’s charitable venture, Tearmann House, a sanctuary for abused women and children. Maybe Laguna will be your favorite new escape.

About the author:
Claire Marti started writing stories as soon as she was old enough to pick up pencil and paper. After graduating from the University of Virginia with a BA in English Literature, Claire was sidetracked by other careers, including practicing law, selling software for legal publishers, and managing a non-profit animal rescue for a Hollywood actress.

Finally, Claire followed her heart and now focuses on two of her true passions: writing romance and teaching yoga. At Last in Laguna is the second book in her Finding Forever in Laguna series from The Wild Rose Press.

Thanks everyone! This book balances some serious childhood issues/scars with a more light-hearted trope of "off-limits" little sister to give you some laughs too. Claire Marti
