Description:

Published: August 2017

As the Dagger, Alex Stone hunted down supernatural threats on covert ops team, Night Command. After the capture of a particularly bad-ass vampire, Tristan Ambrose, Alex gets out of the game. In the years following her departure, Alex started a hot new clothing line and moved on with her life. She was happy pretending the supernatural didn’t exist, but, with Tristan’s escape, she’s pulled back into the game.

Alex is hired to continue guarding the very tempting body of Jason Stavros–up-and-coming vampire politico–alongside her new team, The Trackers. Stavros is scheduled to head to an international conference of the supernatural community in Bucharest, and Alex and her new team must keep him safe while investigating new threats, and ghosts from the past.

When the conference is interrupted by betrayal and sabotage, Alex must pull her weakened team together to bring the saboteurs to justice–and get some well-deserved revenge.

Suddenly, she’s not just back in the game, she’s all in.

By Blood Sworn is the thrilling, psychological, and sexy sequel to In Her Blood , the first book in The Dagger Chronicles series by Janice Jones.

GUEST POST
Top 10 features of the genre in The Dagger Chronicles

10. Vampires are not restricted to the night in NA. In the Dagger Chronicles series, the vampires can appear in daytime hours with the use of a synthetic blood product.

9. NA storylines typically offer more diversity among the characters. The Dagger Chronicles features several different ethnicities, including a woman of color as the lead.

8. NA storylines aren’t necessarily following a traditional plotline anymore, i.e. female ultimately looking for a husband. The lead character in the Dagger Chronicles isn’t focused on a relationship as much as she is on finding and maintaining her own identity.

7. Male leads show more vulnerability than traditionally found in the NA genre. The men of the Dagger Chronicles do show their Alpha Male sides, but they also express and display their vulnerabilities throughout the story.

6. Female leads are allowed to be strong and feminine, without leaning too heavily on the male counterpart. Alex Stone is introduced as a physically strong character, but that strength never takes away from her femininity; she is able to be both.

5. Female leads don’t have to explain their wealth in NA. In this series, my female characters have earned their wealth and positions in the world I’ve created. Their agency isn’t necessarily based on any male in the story.

4. Being driven isn’t a character flaw. Alex is admired for her ambitious nature. Many of the male characters make note of their admiration of that quality in her.

3. Family ties are still very important in NA. The Gale Family may be all male, but they defend each other and aren’t afraid to show their love and loyalty to the world.

2. The traditional ‘family unit’ has expanded in NA. In the Dagger Chronicles, the vampire clans are non-nuclear by design. They can be both matriarchal and patriarchal.

1. A strong female character doesn’t have to have children to be complete and fulfilled in her role in NA. None of the female characters have children in this series, so far. I wanted the reader to see them as women first. I wanted them to have careers or lives of their choosing, and not be defined by their gender or their role as a mother.
