"You will love this story if: you like a good action book, well I say action It's hard to categorise, it's like a dark book but watered down. You will like this book if you want an unconventional but easy read that pushes the boundaries and explores new concepts and story ideas." - Claire, Goodreads
Tragedy places the soldier in StPatrick’s complex, determination to be someone of use keeps her within its walls. When she finally takes her first breaths of freedom, the soldier is sucked back into military servitude. Her long, violent capture and imprisonment by Rochester sets her path of physical and psychological terror.
Under his rule she learns the depth of her own depravity, and how far she can go before she threatens to lose herself. But when Tomlin and his team rescues her, she discovers a new threat in the life she chooses to lead.
As the pages of her genetically-altered history are revealed, the solider finds the key to achieving her new goal: revenge.
It’s unfortunate it might just kill her in the end.
With the resolve of a child who had grown too much to return home, Seleah stayed away from StPatrick's complex for twelve years after her devastating abduction and rescue from criminal mastermind Rochester’s clutches. When her former lover and friend, Tomlin, calls with the news of her beloved mentor's demise, however, she decides to come back to the school and her course is altered dramatically.
Tomlin can’t stand being away from Seleah any longer. He wants her, needs her to return for good. His stupidity was almost his downfall. Now, life has given him a second chance.
But with their reunion comes jealousy and hatred from an outside source, threatening to kill them both and the new life they are seeking.
The pair must learn to accept each other once more; to heal wounds and scars alike, and decide if their paths can really exist together forever. Passion, sadness, violence, and the resiliency of love await in Life’s Hope.
Author's Q&A
What inspired you to write this book?
The Life’s Series began as a simple short story, written as a challenge between a friend and I, and fleshed out into the first novel, Life’s Defeat, during National Novel Writing Month in November 2014. The story truly wrote itself.
What can we expect from you in the future?
A prequel/bridging book within the Life’s Series is currently in with my editor. It is a thriller/memoir, and gives the reader the story behind this very important character, from birth to death. I am also working on completing the last book in the series, a spin-off book, and a collection of short stories, emphasized anecdotes based on my life. I have several more projects that will be started within the next year as well.
Do you have any “side stories” about the characters?
I certainly do! My characters frequently enlighten me with small events: a winter solstice morning, simple and elaborate weddings, lazy Saturday afternoons reading a book while the kids play in the grass.
How to find time to write as a parent?
To be honest, I am lucky. Since my husband works very early in the morning, both he and my kids are in bed by 8:30. That leaves the rest of the evening for me to finish light chores and writing. It helps that I only sleep around 4-6 hours a night as well.
What made you want to become an author and do you feel it was the right decision?
Publishing a book has always been on my bucket list. But to be honest, I never gave it much thought until a friend of mine passed away and I began to think of what I would leave behind for my own children. Once my first book came out I realized I had started on the journey and I wanted to get the series out in its entirety. Like any creative endeavor, it has become a bit of an obsession, so whether it was the right decision? That is always a debate.
Advice you would give new authors?
Go for it. Do it whole heartedly. Write those stories, push down any opposition and plow through it. However, also know when to listen to others and accept help. I have seen it time and again (and been subject to it myself) where a new author drills through a work, then publishes it with a lot more difficulty than they need to, or prematurely, all because they are impatient and don’t ask or listen to others. The result is a badly edited (or not edited at all) piece which reflects badly on the author. Remember, it is YOUR name on these books. Take the time to do it right, or don’t do it at all. If that means waiting a year or two to save up for the professional cover and editing, then do it. I promise you, it is worth it.
