her plan has a tiny flaw… - Part Time Cowboy (Copper Ridge #1) by Maisey Yates

Sadie Miller isn’t expecting any welcome-home parades on her return to Copper Ridge. Least of all from part-time rancher, full-time lawman Eli Garrett. The straight-laced, impossibly hot deputy sheriff glares at her like she’s the same teenage hoodlum who fled town ten years ago.

A one-time bad girl comes home to small-town Oregon...

But running from her demons has brought Sadie full circle, ready to make a commitment at last. Not to a man, but to a B and B. On Garrett land. Okay, so her plan has a tiny flaw…

Eli works too hard to let a blonde ball of trouble mess up his town. But keeping an eye on Sadie makes it tough to keep his hands off her. And if she’s so wrong for him, why does being with her feel so right?

GUEST POST
Cowboy: Symbol and Fascination

What is it about a man in the Stetson that’s just so fascinating? I think there are a lot of reasons to love a cowboy.

When I think about the kinds of heroes who tend to be popular in romance novels I see a lot of commonalities. Billionaires, Dukes, vampires and Cowboys have more in common than it might immediately appear they do.

They’re all men apart. Men who exist, to a certain degree, outside of the rules of society. Theyre men who operate within, and who control, their own worlds.

The Duke commands high society with his status, while the billionaire uses money to shape circumstances to suit his desires. Vampires are immortal. They exist even outside the rules of nature.

Cowboys command the ranch. Theyre hard-working men who have built whole lives from the land they live on. Men who are self-sufficient. Who could, in my mind, continue to survive through sheer backbreaking labor and determination, even if they didn’t have any money.

Like a billionaire, they are set apart in their way. and that means they aren’t beholden to some of the social niceties the rest of us are. Which, I confess, is what attracts me to a cowboy hero. I like an alpha male. I like a man who makes his own rules.

Frankly, I like a man in tight jeans, with a big belt buckle and a hat. That’s the simple truth.

I also think that’s part of the reason cowboy heroes continue to be so popular. Just saying the word cowboy conjures up a specific image. Whether you’re a fan or not, you know exactly what you’re going to get.

Of course, like any hero, like any person, a cowboy hero acts as an individual. They aren’t all the same. But the basic description brings to mind a man who is strong, independent and hard-working. A man who isn’t afraid to get his hands dirty. Who would defend and protect his heroine in any circumstance. A man who probably isn’t afraid to get in the middle of a bar fight.

Most compelling of all though, when I think of a cowboy I think of the kind of man who has learned to whether every storm and stand true. Not just when it comes to caring for animals, caring for his land, but when it comes to love.

In fact, after all, its the most important thing in a romance hero whether he’s a billionaire, a Duke, a vampire or a cowboy.
