Fiendish is a dark and twisted take on Beauty and The Beast. This story contains mature themes meant for readers 18+.
So what would you do if your prince charming turned out to be the worst kind of monster?
Calida Alexander moves from Charlotte to Atlanta after a painful break up. She faced some harsh realities about herself during that breakup and desperately wants to change who she perceives herself to be. When she meets Seth, she is drawn in by his sexy good looks and is won over by his gentlemanly demeanor. On the surface, he's her dream come true.
Seth Jokobi is sexy and charming, the kind of man that women dream of being with. As a master manipulator, he uses his charm and good looks as a lure. His prey never suspect that lurking behind those piercing blue eyes and million dollar smile, lies a sadistic monster. When he meets Calida, her shy nature tempts him into playing a game where the stakes end up being higher than he could have imagined.
Can love really conquer all or is it sometimes just not enough?

The traps (or things to avoid) in a retelling (or of a "take on")
Since I’ve only attempted one retelling, I don’t really know what to avoid. I guess the biggest thing would be finding your own twist to a story that has been done countless times over. It’s really odd to say be original when the story idea itself is not, but you really need to be original. I’ve always liked Beauty and the Beast, it’s my favorite fairytale. I like the message behind the story, that beauty is only skin deep and you have to look deeper to find the person’s true inner beauty. When I was trying to figure out the best way to add a twist to Beauty and the Beast for Fiendish, it took me a little while before I decided on reversing that moral. To see what happens when people don’t really look past that outer beauty until it’s too late. We live in a society obsessed with beauty and looks, but what happens when that facade is a trap. The moral of my story sort of remains the same, beauty is only skin deep.
So when taking on a retelling don’t be afraid to think outside of the box. Maybe Cinderella doesn’t have to be a female being saved by the handsome prince, maybe ‘she’ can be a guy, down on his luck and saved by a beautiful princess. It’s okay to look at the underlying moral of the story you are wanting to retell and use that as a guide for shaping your idea. Best of all have fun! It’s your world, your characters, enjoy them, torture them...do what suits your needs and the needs of the story you are trying to tell.
