Interview and Giveaway: After the Summerland (The Witches of Spring Hill, #1) by Patricia A. Proctor

Description:

Teen triplets are shocked to discover they are the reincarnation of three witches living on sacred land. The land magnifies their abilities, making them more powerful witches – and targets. They aren’t the only ones aware of the power the land gives . . .

Chloe, Kaiden, and Rowan Alexander can’t wait to meet the new triplets that have just arrived in town. They are determined to find out if they are anything alike. The attraction is instant, though they soon discover they share more than just being fraternal triplets – in fact, Brianna, Cian, and Xavier Silvan are also witches with a secret of their own.

They must overcome their distrust of each other and join together to fight a much stronger witch, who wants the sacred land for more than the power it gives.

It’s a paranormal coming of age story where the teens discover the purpose of their existence, explore their new powers, new relationships, and overcome family secrets, all while becoming stronger witches. They must learn quickly so they can protect themselves and the people they love from the force of dark magic bearing down on them.

MB's INTERVIEW
Thank you, Mrs.Patricia A. Proctor
Even the idea of twins and triplets makes us to think about special connection between them. Why this choice for your characters?
I chose triplets for my story because of that special connection you mention. In the story, both sets of triplets have an unspoken connection to each other, which creates an element of magic and mystery that fits well with the story line. Since most of us don’t understand the magic of being a triplet, that connection they share is intriguing and even a little supernatural. I also wanted them all to be the same age to eliminate some of the rivalry that occurs in standard sibling relationships.

With so much fantasy books published in our day, what it takes for an author to create a fresh, original, good story? Is there a secret ingredient of a successful book?
No two authors are alike, so even though the market is saturated with fantasy books, there’s always room for a different perspective even within the same genre. I don’t know that there is just one secret ingredient for a successful book. I think there are a lot of ingredients and what may work for one book may not work for another. Though, an author’s true voice, a well-written and well-edited story, and a little bit of luck go a long way.

You believe in karma. Do your characters believe in karma too, especially with those rules that say that everything you do will return to you threefold? What is important for them, what are their guidance rules?
Yes, my characters believe in karma. In some Wiccan traditions, it is called the Rule of Three. Whatever energy a person puts out into the world, either positive or negative, is returned to that person threefold. So my characters make choices and act mostly in ways that would bring forth positive consequences. Though, my characters are young witches and are just learning about their craft, and some lessons are harder to learn than others.

Secrets, danger, a bit of romance… is it room for humor in Spring Hill? What may be its role?
There is definitely humor in Spring Hill. The witches are all teenagers and there is humor in how they view life. Their relationship with their father and with each other creates humorous interactions that I enjoyed writing! Humor lessens the intensity of the story, and as it does with any situation in life, it is a reminder that there is still happiness even in the face of challenges.

I personally read with pleasure YA books. But for the “others” can you tell us why YA can be read at any age?
YA books today have compelling storylines and are filled with characters that are both likable and relatable to any age. There are stories of hope, transformation, change, and firsts, all of which are appealing to everyone, no matter how old or young the reader is. Most people read because it’s enjoyable, and what could be better than getting lost in a book that is so completely different from your own reality?
