The Trends of the Romance Genre
The good thing about romance is that there is a variety. There is contemporary, historical, new age, erotic, paranormal and so on and today I was asked to talk about the current trends...
Now, I’m not sure about you all, but the trend I’m seeing is still the paranormal genre craze, the billionaire with the virgin heroin, the faux incest step-brother thing, and the tattooed bad boys of various different MC’s.
I’ve read and enjoyed books in all of those genres/trends. Is it over done? I think not. Obviously someone is doing something right, and as long as we’re enjoying it I say why the heck not?
Who doesn’t like a hot vampire, a good witch story, or a sexy shifter romance? The billionaire romances indulge in a little fantasy of the sexy, successful, rich men who will sweep us off our feet and into a HEA. Mind you, I think it would be nice to see roles reversed once in awhile. Like why do the women all have to be virgins? And, it might be nice to read a story about a rich, beautiful woman sometime but hey that’s just my opinion. That’s what’s great about having a healthy imagination. The sky is the limit. Then there is the step brother forbidden love, and the idea of taming the bad boy fantasy most of us have with our sinful, yet delectable MC boys. J
I personally haven’t dipped into any of these trends when it comes to my writing, but I’m sure I will someday, maybe…
