Better to be a hunter, not prey. - Hunting Season (Aurora Sky: Vampire Hunter #4) by Nikki Jefford

"This book was none stop action, and I loved every minute of it. I was sitting at the edge of my seat most of the time, wanting to know what happened next. Aurora Sky just can't get a break, [...]" - Goodreads, Ashley

Description:

Better to be a hunter, not prey.

Ever since her partner was kidnapped, Aurora Sky has been on a personal mission to get him back. To do that she needs the vampire responsible for destroying her life.

In order to have a snowball’s chance at success, she’ll have to team up with her most loyal friends—including a certain vampire in black with a provoking talent for distraction.

Old cravings aren’t easily quenched, nor past passions. With knowledge comes danger and Aurora is at risk on all sides.

GUEST POST
What can authors do to maintain readers’ interest in fantasy literature?

Get CRAZY!
By crazy, I mean sky’s the limit, creative.

Come up with new, never-before-seen, twists. If you think it’s all been done before, it hasn’t.
Here’s an example. Vampires. They suck blood and live forever. Check, check. But what if only people with AB negative and positive blood (the two rarest blood types in the world) could turn into vampires? And what if they had to contract a deadly disease first? And what if we were in… ALASKA! Now things are getting more interesting.

Here’s another example. Witches. Magic, chanting, charms. Okay. Add some crazy: death, resurrection, duplication, love spells, and -- holy witch on a stick -- we’re having fun now!

Watch TV series.
This may sound counterintuitive to readers, but you can glean all kinds of gold nuggets from TV shows. Joss Whedon has shown me it’s okay to be outlandish. If it weren’t for shows like Buffy, Torchwood, Alias, Supernatural, Stargate SG-1, etc., I might still be toiling over my historical romance manuscripts, trying to get the wardrobe and language just right, taking myself way too seriously, beating my head against the wall, and having no fun. Been there, done that.

Create interesting characters.
When it comes down to it, characters matter most.
Ever been stuck with a roommate or on a vacation with a barracuda? (Me!) It doesn’t matter if you’re at the coolest college ever or in Hawaii (freakin’ paradise!) jerky people put a damper on the story, including the story of your life. (Unless they’re a villain and you have a maddening, yet sexy and redeemable, hero along for the ride.)

In short, come up with characters readers’ love, hate, and love to hate. It all comes back to getting crazy and having fun.

Life’s short. Who wants normal? To me, that’s what the fantasy genre is all about.

Book one is currently FREE at all major online ebook retailers. And available for the reduced price of $1.99 in audiobook with Amazon’s Whispersync for Voice.
