A battle that has spanned a millennia - Queen's Destiny (Blood Prophecy #1) by Barb Jones

"This dark paranormal romance is such an addictive page-turner that I hated for it to end. Although I might assume from the full title (Blood Prophecy: One: Queen’s Destiny) that there will be another book, if my assumption is incorrect I might beg Ms. Jones to tell us more of Michael, Amber, Marcus, and Chloe.. I encourage my readers to grab this one as soon as you can, especially if you have the time to sit down, read, and not be able to put the book down. Again, Ms. Jones, please write for us what happens next!!" - Amazon

Amber Stone, once a child prodigy, has just become curator of a special collection of Macedonian artifacts for the Seattle Museum of Natural History. The two become fast friends, united by Amber's unsettling dreams and Chloe's unorthodox ways of dealing with them. Two strangers arrive in town, bringing with them a prophecy recorded more than three-thousand years ago, a prophecy that places Amber directly in the midst of a battle that has spanned a millennia.

GUEST POST
From Children Books to Adult Books…

I sometimes think about how authors really make the transition from children’s books to adult books and then I realize that I’m one of those authors too. When I first set out to decide on what to create and publish in regards to a book and my heart led me to write children’s books. I wrote Little Arthur and Merlin the Maginificent – The Baby Dragon and Meet the Knights. Both came naturally to me. Then, that night, I dreamt of a paranormal story that made me so content that I didn’t want to wake up! Thus, I began that journey.

It makes you wonder about how to write for two different audiences. Let me tell you, it wasn’t easy. For children, it came easy to me. Funny when you think about it, but in children’s books, it’s almost like talking to my children for me. My son, now nine, was five years old at the time. He wanted his very own story about King Arthur because he didn’t like the fact that all the books about King Arthur were so thick! I created it with a twist. King Arthur and Merlin are actually five years old. Because I’m close to my children, writing this was easy for me.

Now, let’s talk about writing for adults. This is the tricky part. It took me some time to really get my mind into writing for adults. I struggled with this at first and then I learned that I wasn’t the only author to have this issue. Part of this comes from transitioning to a world that is imaginary for children to a world that is more of a reality for adults. For authors like J.K. Rowling or Salman Rushdie who made such a transition, their adult books may be viewed as a disappointment to us readers, when in fact, they aren’t. It’s just that these authors spent a good deal of time writing for a younger audience that issues going from wizardry to something more serious like housing projects, poverty may catch the audience off guard and unprepared.

For me, personally, the transition from children’s to adults was a little tricky but giving myself some time to put my mind into the minds of my audience was key. I am able to write effectively in both now, switching back and forth for my books. Queen’s Destiny, my first adult paranormal book of the series called Blood Prophecy, has received many five star reviews as well as my children’s books. With that, I believe, that I have made the transition very easy for me (so far) but as I venture to write for young adults and not a paranormal novel, I will keep in mind that the transition will be somewhat of a challenge but certainly not unachievable. So, the next time you read a book from an author that made this same kind of transition, keep in mind, that it was a challenge and it is not intended to have the same tone as the children’s book due to the audience being different.
