Dystopian Giveaway Hop International

Click HERE see the list of blogs participating to this hop!

Dystopia is a form of literature that explores social and political structures. It is a creation of a nightmare world - unlike its opposite, Utopia, which is an ideal world. Dystopia is often characterized by an authoritarian or totalitarian form of government. It often features different kinds of repressive social control systems, a lack or total absence of individual freedoms and expressions, and a state of constant warfare or violence. Many novels combine both Dystopia and Utopia, often as a metaphor for the different directions humanity can take in its choices, ending up with one of the two possible futures. Goodreads

A dystopia (from the Greek δυσ- and τόπος, alternatively, cacotopia, kakotopia, or anti-utopia) is a community or society that is in some important way undesirable or frightening. It is literally translated as "not-good bad-place" and synonymous with the opposite of utopia. Such societies appear in many artistic works, particularly in stories set in a future. Dystopias are often characterized by dehumanization, totalitarian governments, environmental disaster, or other characteristics associated with a cataclysmic decline in society. Dystopian societies appear in many sub-genres of fiction and are often used to draw attention to real-world issues regarding society, environment, politics, economics, religion, psychology, ethics, science, and/or technology, which if unaddressed could potentially lead to such a dystopia-like condition. -Wikipedia

I'd say my favorites are the first two books in the Birthright trilogy by Gabrielle Zevin. I haven't read the third yet or I'd say it's a fave too! It's probably the first dystopian series I tried, and I really loved it. A world where chocolate is illegal. Sounds more like a horror story, no?

I have read so many. Of course I love the Hunger Games series, but right now I'm really loving The Darkest Minds books.

I have always though that Brave New World was a brilliant dystopia. I find the oppressive ones a bit ridiculous since the citizens should have revolted long ago. But why would anyone revolt against a government where everyone is "happy"?
