For the Strange and Surprising: Where the Mongrels Are (Where They Are, #1) by M.F. Adele

18++ "For the Strange and Surprising was an excellent start to the series. I loved the world with its jumbo creatures, interesting elemental powers, hot guys, and the mischievous queen. The story is very interesting, I have no idea where things are going and that just makes me want to have more." Rachel, Goodreads

Published: August 27th, 2021

I’m a catastrophe waiting to happen—I always have been.

When a waterspout drops me on the shores of a seemingly deserted island, I soon realize that I’m not on Earth, and I’m not alone.

This new world is full of dangers, from sea monsters and feuding tribes to poisonous food and beasts that lurk in the shadows. None of those things are as dangerous as the Mongrel men appointed to guard and teach me.

All I want to do is go home, but the island has no intentions of letting me leave.

I’ll be forced to interact with total strangers to survive this perilous land surrounded by treacherous waters.

My dreams of happiness sink into the dark depths below as I struggle to save myself from certain death.

The Mongrels will learn that fear makes a person reckless.

My name is Adelaide Storm.
But they’ll call me Ada Stormbrave.

GUEST POST
What is RH?

When you stumble across the Reverse Harem community, you’ll find it difficult to leave.

You see, we don’t offer cookies when you cross over to the dark side. Nay, my friend. We offer a buffet of men and women in all sizes, shapes, ethnicities, species, and personality types.

After we sink our claws into you with thrilling tales and… thrilling tails… you’ll have opened up a whole new world of contemporary and paranormal stories. From mafias to motorcycle clubs, academies to soccer moms, Hell to Heaven. We have everything you’ve been looking for, plus a few extra hands. (wink, wink)

You might ask, “What am I getting myself into?”

We’ll smile at you—some sweet, some devious—because once you read RH, you may find yourself craving what we have to offer.

Really, though. Who wants to choose between their favorite book boyfriends?
I don’t, and I bet you have several favorites you’d like to keep too.

More than likely you’ll see our readers playfully arguing over who the best guy in the harem is.
We all have our types, and RH books cover more than you can dream of.

“But what is RH?”

Well… By the simplest definition, the female protagonist of the story has three or more love interests, and she doesn’t choose between them. She keeps them all and gets her happily ever after.*

However, Reverse Harem is so much more than not choosing.

To me…
It’s about recognizing how complicated people can be.
It’s knowing that one person isn’t always capable of making you whole.
It’s not feeling bad about needing more.
It’s personal growth, trusting in others, learning to work as a team, stability, exploration…
I could go on and on. RH is that vast.

And so are our readers.

Within the RH community, I’ve met some amazing friends, both as a reader and an author. But it’s not just me. There are so many forever friendships floating around, all based on a single common factor.

The love of one book brings them together; the love of the genre bonds them… Having different favorites in the harem gives them something to argue over, while choosing the same favorite means that we now need to work out a schedule to share the lucky fella. Kidding. Sort of.

These unlikely friendships are part of the reason why I love the community.

“Okay. And why do you write RH?”

The d— Joking. I’m joking.

My characteristics were portrayed in some of my favorite RH books, and from there? I thought, “If I connect this much with the way XYZ sees the world, then maybe there’s someone who would connect with the way I see things.” Or something like that.

I write Reverse Harem because I am complicated, flawed, and sometimes not quite whole.

I write RH because… even though I don’t have a harem of buff dudes at my beck and call, I do have a husband, friends, family that make me feel whole. But it’s taken me years to realize that I needed more than one person to be happy.

And that… That is why I love RH.

We all have that one person who makes us laugh. That one person who makes us want to be a better version of ourselves or encourages us to do the things we know we shouldn’t do. That one person who challenges us, who is easy to talk to, who is there to clean up our messes, who helps us lie or calls us out for it… Someone who is adventurous, daring, protective, grounding, mysterious, quiet, grumpy…

No one ever said all those qualities that you need had to come from the same person.

Welcome to Reverse Harem, my friend.

There is no turning back now.
