It's not easy being royal - Just Pretending (The Chicago Falcons #3) by Leah and Kate Rooper

"This book series has been really great reads so far and Just Pretending did not disappoint! It was fast paced, and it had the same reading vibes as the other books had for me." Colleen, Goodreads

Published: November 5th, 2018

It's not easy being royal. Sixteen-year-old Evangeline wears her crown proudly, but between her duties and her overprotective big brother, the idea of romance is just a dream. But a chance encounter in Chicago changes all that….

Sure, seventeen-year-old Tyler Evans loves playing hockey, but he's more concerned about providing for his dad and little sister. Then he meets Eva--and falls head-over-heels in love—and he has two more problems. One, she's his best friend's little sister. Two, she wears a crown.

But then Eva accidentally mistakes Tyler for a visiting prince, and for the first time, Tyler doesn't feel like a nobody. He knows he has to tell her the truth…but not yet.

His plan? To keep up the royal charade as long as it takes to convince Eva he’s the guy for her. Even if he’s lying to everyone…including himself.

Disclaimer: May cause disillusionment. Those girls looking to find their Prince Charming might consider scouting out hockey rinks.

GUEST POST
The world of …

Although we’re Canadian, the city of Chicago is very important to us, so it only made sense to make it the home of our Falcons! Despite being a real-place, we still needed to do a lot of world building to make the home of the Falcons feel real. For example, we had to create all the rules and regulations of a brand-new hockey league; hopefully the reader believes a team like the Falcons could be playing in their hometown! We also did a ton of research to properly represent Chicago, such as looking up everything from tourist attractions to areas of town where our players would live. Although it’s been almost ten years since we’ve been to Chicago, it feels like we’ve been walking around it for the last year!

In addition, a majority of JUST PRETENDING takes place in the fictional country of Eldonia, so that’s where most of the world building came in!

Eldonia was inspired in part by the countryside of Italy, in part by a small English village, and in part by Corona (that’s the fictional kingdom Rapunzel is from in Disney’s Tangled!) As JUST PRETENDING takes place at Christmas time, we wanted to create a scene that made the reader feel like they just walked into a Christmas card: snowcapped trees, twinkling lights, the smell of gingerbread in the air. We couldn’t imagine a more romantic location than a snowy castle decked out in wreaths and mistletoe!

In order to create Eldonia, we had to do a lot of research on European monarchies. England seemed to be the easiest to find information on, so Eldonia’s law system is mostly based on that — with a few creative licenses, of course!

It was so fun to create a whole new country, and we don’t know about you, but we would love to visit Eldonia. Unfortunately, it only exists in our books, so you better pick up a copy of JUST PRETENDING if you want to experience all that Christmas magic yourself ;)
