She will face her toughest fight yet Coven's Calling (Night Hunters, #2) by Helena Shaw

"This book is well written and thought out. The plot and story line are solid. The author does a great good creating the environment and characters/ monsters. I like that she develops her own world with its own rules and sticks to it. The characters are well developed and seem as real as you and me. You are right there with them throughout the whole book." - Goodreads

Description:

Dawn Garrett has left behind the horrors she faced in Goosemont for a life on the road with Jase Byrnes. With his guidance, she’s started her training as a hunter of the things that hide in the shadows.

But that training is interrupted when another hunter needs help on a case. Together, Dawn and Jase head south to Louisiana to discover just what is behind a series of gruesome attacks in the suburb of Bon Marais. It’s the perfect chance for Dawn to show off her new skills, but with real danger lurking everywhere, Jase isn’t ready to let her out of his sight.

She’s sick of being held back, but when someone from her past arrives in Bon Marais, Dawn will face her toughest fight yet. She has to make a choice whether to become the hunter, or to follow her heart.

GUEST POST
How a Story is Born

Putting your finger on the birth of a new story idea is kind of like trying to pinpoint when exactly you fell asleep. It just kind of happens, and you don’t realize it’s happened until after it’s done.

The idea for my Night Hunters series was one long in the making. I’ve always loved the spooky, the paranormal, the strange, but more than anything I love the normal people who are thrown into that world. The people who hunt monsters, who investigate strange occurrences. What I wanted was a story that saw two people thrust into that world, but also had romance.

With that in mind, I started outlining. I kept it loose, a line or two of how I wanted the story to progress. From there came the details. Each chapter grew and grew in the outline, I connected the dots, added details, and gave the characters life.

Keeping it fresh is one of the hardest parts, but an outline is, for me, very important to that process. Writing an entire manuscript only to go back and find your pacing is a little slow, or you have a plot hole that is gaping in the center of your book is a bad way to get a novel off the ground.

That’s why I outline in such detail. Harvest Moon was a little simpler in plot and that book, for me, was more about making Dawn and Jase’s budding relationship relatable, believable, and most of all, passionate. For Coven’s Calling, things were a little different. The story is a bit more of a whodunit and with the body count adding up fast, there was no way I wouldn’t have gotten lost if I hadn’t connected all those dots before I even got started.

Don’t forget – you can always change things later. Just because your outline is super detailed, polished, and finished doesn’t mean you won’t get to chapter ten and realize you want to change something. Do what feels right, it’s your story!

At the end of the day – write the story that you want to tell. If you aren’t happy with the finished product, chances are that your audience won’t be either. Write from the heart, plan ahead, and don’t be afraid to make changes. Read, reread, and reread again. Make it your own, and readers will come!
