Revelations from the past could change her life - Dealing with Devils (The Road to Salvation #2) by Pembroke Sinclair

She closed her eyes and rested her forehead against the rail. A groan escaped her lips. She felt like a horrible person. Why did she allow this to keep happening? Why didn’t she have the strength to fight it? Footsteps sounded on the deck, and Katie looked up. Josh approached and sat down next to her. Katie wanted to apologize for running away, ask him not to be mad at her, but the words wouldn’t come out of her mouth. He wrapped his arm around her and pulled her close. She laid her head on his shoulder.

Dating a demon has its advantages, like helping deliver souls to Hell. Wait...what?

Katie’s world has been turned upside down. She's fallen for Josh—despite the fact that he’s a demon from Hell. Wes is finally out of her system and her life.

Convinced she can change Josh, she sets out to make him a better person, only to find out things aren’t as simple as she’d originally thought. For one thing, Josh has Katie help him deliver souls to Hell, and she kind of likes it. And to top it off, other more powerful demons are battling for her soul, and revelations from the past could change the course of her life forever.

GUEST POST
How Good a Demon Can Be

I have been fascinated with good vs evil, devils vs angels since I read Paradise Lost by Milton in college.  For some reason, the way he describes the Devil in that story really spoke to me.  I really liked that Lucifer was conflicted.

While writing The Road to Salvation series, I thought a lot about how demons are portrayed in films and in stories.  Without a doubt, they are always these evil, awful, terrible, hideous creatures that only exist to bring down humans and destroy the world.

The role of demons in stories is that they are there to teach lessons.  They are the consequence for making bad decisions.  If you do something wrong in life, demons are the punishment.  If you want to avoid being dragged to Hell or having to face an unholy creature, then you have to stay on the straight and narrow.  You can’t give in to temptation.  You can’t give in to the demon.

Thankfully, most demons can be defeated, and they often are by the just and righteous.  Those who don’t possess these qualities are often the villain and get what they deserve.  Demons help us draw a very distinct line between good and evil, right and wrong.  And by having a demon look as hideous as they do, it’s not hard for the characters to pick out evil and know that it’s supposed to be avoided.

But at the same time, I felt like there would be more to demons.  I felt they would be like Milton’s Lucifer: complicated.  I also thought that if demons really wanted to tempt humans into sin, it would be a lot easier to do that if they looked like a friend—if they were there to give peer pressure, if you will.  So that’s how I designed my demons.

I’m not sure I can say that a demon can be good.  After all, they are demons.  However, I think that if an angel can fall, then a demon can probably be saved.  They would have to know what good was if they were to be evil.  One can’t exist without the other.  Lucifer had free will to go against Heaven, so wouldn’t it make sense that a demon could choose to be good?
