Review Lair of the Lion by Christine Feehan

Impoverished aristocrat Isabella Vernaducci will defy death itself to rescue her imprisoned brother. She'll even brave the haunted, accursed lair of the lion--the menacing palazzo of legendary, lethal Don Nicolai DeMarco. Rumor says the powerful don can command the heavens, that the beasts below do his bidding...and that he is doomed to destroy the woman he takes as his wife. But Isabella meets a man whose growl is velvet, purring heat, whose eyes hold dark, all-consuming desire. And when the don commands her to become his bride, she goes willingly into his muscled arms, praying she'll save his tortured soul...not sacrifice her life. Historical Romance Book Club Selection.

It was absolutely necessary for me to try to read a book by an author with such great recommendations, even if I can’t say I’m a big fan of this kind of romance.

I’ve read Lair of the lion in two days, so it’s impossible to say that I didn’t like it. But I can’t say how much I liked it either. Of course I knew that there will be hot scenes, and I give this book a big plus because they didn’t start from the first pages. There are teasing scenes before the actual thing and the number of hot scenes isn’t big enough to make you roll your eyes.

The leading characters are nice and they fulfill their purpose. The secondary ones are enjoyable too, and they keep you in suspense.

The action is ok. It’s an adult adaption of a well-known fairy tale, but it’s not boring at all. It has turns, snaps, even surprises. However there are some flaws. For example, the mysterious force. Where does it come from? And where does it go when was it defeated and why? A lot of things are left unexplained. Or, where are the heroine’s special abilities from? Again, it’s not clear. With such explanations – and others – missing, it’s easy to bend the story and to reverse the events at your wish.

The finale is predictable, but it doesn’t spoil the fun - entirely, because the reader will be curious to find out how the things will be solved.

"Lair of the Lion" suna mult mai interesant.

Chiar am ascultat cateva descantece/ incantatii in Carpathian. Suna... ciudat.
