"This is a superb romantic suspense with two brilliant lead characters. [...] a fast paced romantic suspense [...] There are plenty of twists and turns in the rapidly evolving adventure and survival isn't a guaranteed outcome. [...] I have no hesitation in highly recommending this to anyone [...]" Elaine, Goodreads
Sabinne ‘Saber’ Darrieux’s father, the billionaire CEO of Frontenac Global Security has been kidnapped. His ransom is not cash in a numbered offshore account, or a briefcase of Bearer Bonds but something utterly unique, incredibly valuable, and until recently, hidden away from the world.
The kidnapper seems to know Saber very well and knows that the next day, through her work as an elite translator she will be in the same location as the Object. She must steal the Object and deliver it to the kidnapper to ransom her father.
Adrian Steele, a British Intelligence agent has just come off of two harrowing missions. Upon returning to London for a well-earned rest, he learns that his friend and a fellow agent have been murdered in Moscow, but not before he made use of a unique Object as a mobile ‘drop site’ for the valuable intelligence he was carrying.
The drop site is traveling from Moscow to England. Steele insists on completing the mission to honor the death of his friend, Gerry Cornell.
At an ultra-chic quasi-diplomatic gathering in a mansion in Windsor, England, Saber and Steele meet and find themselves faced with a powerful, undeniable attraction. But at the moment, this compelling attraction is very inconvenient.
In reality, they are at the mansion to check out the security arrangements — for their own reasons — to steal the Object, a Fabergé egg worth thirty million dollars. But who will get to the egg first?
Fabergé eggs are very famous for their unique surprises. Saber and Steele are about to be very surprised, indeed.
And when Saber clashes with Steele; more than sparks will explode!
GUEST POST
THE MAGICK OF MUSIC
I’ve been moving to “Rumble and Sway” by Jamie N Commons, then smiling with the goofy, sweet-toffee-joy of “Back in the USSR” by the Beatles recently, because both have been fueling my imagination as I work on my next book about Saber and Steele.
Music has the power to drop you into a three-minute memory of a time gone past, or a memory imagined, moving to your own soundtrack. All of us have a song; probably more than one, and when we hear it, even if it’s been decades, we go directly back to a very specific time and place. This can be a full-on sensory experience, day or night, hot or cold, what time of year, what was felt, or not felt at the time.
It’s certainly not by chance that couples in love have “their” song. It embodies their hopes, their dreams, or their frustrations. But it is unique in its meaning to these two people. It draws them over to their moments together.
There’s also a real physicality to music. We move to the rhythm, the vibration. It can also point to an irony of the situation, or a character’s state of mind or emotion they are feeling. For Steele, “Back in the USSR” is ironic, he doesn’t want to be in Russia, especially in winter, but he has unfinished business with a certain Mafiya boss who murdered a friend of his.
For Steele, who spies and lies (but doesn’t want to) for a living, the song “You’re Gonna Go Far, Kid” by The Offspring is on target. For Saber, who is French, and struggling with her feelings, “Je Suis Folle de Tant T’Aimer” (I’m crazy to love you so much) by Arlette Zola describes her upbeat emotional uncertainty. For Sean Hennessey, the man Saber works for (as a translator) on a contract basis, “I Don’t Care” by Fallout Boy illustrates his jealousy over Saber’s new “boyfriend”.
Music IS magick.
