REVIEW
Mrs. Sybil Bartel is an old friend of MB, but rarely I get to read her books. Three and some years ago, I read and reviewed another of her books No Apologies; I mentioned this because, at that time, I said that it seems that Mrs. Bartel found some winning answers to what a good romance story should be, and now I see that, after all this time and several other books, she still can play them “against” the reader.
Do you need a simple story with events that can be controlled entirely by the characters or, despite that you want (at least, I want) a happy ending, a story in which the characters and their love will be put to the test? Hard. If you want the latest, you could try Andre.
When the blood vessel of love is harmed sometimes the haemorrhage could be fatal.
While the main character’s feelings are tested in a more visible and explicit way, his love interest suffers from reasons more profound and harder to understand.
In this story, there are more than one type of love. Different facets and different dimensions of the sentiment will gave consistency to the story and put possible traps in the characters' ways or, on the contrary, they will offer the chance of survival: physical and emotional.
One of the things that I also liked was the camaraderie among male characters; they are brothers in arms for real. (Could be a preference for a Neil, in your works, Mrs. Bratel?). No one is left behind or one for all and all for one could be their logo. The story could use more action scenes, but, even if our guys could handle more, the author gave us enough for a romance. After all, this is not a story for boys and important is the healing nature of love. Because, isn’t it, love can conquer all.
Maybe one time or twice I was upset with her, maybe at some point I was disappointed with him, but, at the end, I liked the story. Mrs. Bartel made a habit of going “one shot – one kill”. Sounds familiar?
Be loved and Enjoy the ride!

The Marines trained me to set my sights and wait for the shot. For eight years, I guarded my brothers and defended my country. Now I protect my clients. My personal security firm is the best in the business because I leave nothing to chance… until a dark-haired, hazel-eyed spitfire crosses my path.
She and her sexy-as-hell striptease were supposed to be a one-night distraction. But too late I noticed the branding on her back and my blood ran cold. This woman wasn’t a distraction—she was a death sentence.
Knowing who she was left me no choice. I took her on as my client. But running from her past wasn’t an option.
The Marines didn’t train me to retreat. They taught me to engage.
One shot. One kill.
About the author:
Sybil Bartel grew up in Northern California with her head in a book and her feet in the sand. She dreamt of becoming a painter but the heady scent of libraries with their shelves full of books drew her into the world of storytelling. She loves the New Adult genre, but any story about a love so desperately wrong and impossibly beautiful makes her swoon.
Sybil now resides in Southern Florida and while she doesn’t get to read as much as she likes, she still buries her toes in the sand. If she isn’t writing or fighting to contain the banana plantation in her backyard, you can find her spending time with her handsomely tattooed husband, her brilliantly practical son and a mischievous miniature boxer…
But Seriously?
Here are ten things you probably really want to know about Sybil.
She grew up a faculty brat. She can swear like a sailor. She loves men in uniform. She hates being told what to do. She can do your taxes (but don’t ask). The Bird Market in Hong Kong freaks her out. Her favorite word is desperate…or dirty, or both—she can’t decide. She has a thing for muscle cars. But never reply on her for driving directions, ever. And she has a new book boyfriend every week—don’t tell her husband.
