her heart’s memory - The Heartbeat Hypothesis by Lindsey Frydman

"Seriously? How can this possibly be a debut novel for this author? This book was BRILLIANT! OMG, there is so much depth and thought to this story. It completely and totally blew me away. In fact, I'm buying a print copy of the book because I want to re-read and just pull out the plethora of incredible quotes that are in this book. Plus did you see that cover? So gorgeous!" - Christi, Goodreads

Description:

Published: March 2017

Audra Madison simply wanted to walk in the shoes of Emily Cavanaugh, a free-spirited teenager who died too young. After all, Audra wasn’t supposed to be here.

Thanks to Emily, Audra has a second chance at life. She’s doing all the things that seemed impossible just two years ago: Go to college. Date. Stargaze in the Rocky Mountains. Maybe get a tattoo. You know, live.

Jake Cavanaugh, a photographer with mysterious, brooding gray eyes, agrees to help chronicle her newfound experiences. She makes him laugh, one of the only people who can these days. As they delve into each other’s pasts – and secrets – the closer they become.

But she’s guarded and feels like she can’t trust anyone, including herself.

And he’s struggling with the fact that his beloved sister’s heart beats inside her.

Q&A With Lindsey Frydman

Please tell us a bit about your new release.
THE HEARTBEAT HYPOTHESIS is a new adult romance about Audra, a girl who’s decided to honor her heart donor’s memory by recreating her done-it list—an anti-bucket list in the form of a photographic journal. She convinces Jake, the sexy photographer (and her donor’s brother) to help chronicle her newfound experiences. But while he might be willing to help with the list, he wants nothing to do with uncovering the painful truth behind his sister’s death.

What’s coming next, or what are you working on now?
My next book is a YA romantic magical realism called TO WHATEVER END—a story in which a girl who’s cursed with seeing the end to all her romantic relationships meets a boy who makes her question everything. It’s slated for release early 2018!

What inspires your book ideas?
Is the answer “everything” an option? Ha! But seriously, I find a lot of my inspiration while perusing Pinterest or daydreaming in the shower. Random thoughts will float on by and I’ll think that one! If the idea holds my interest for longer than a few days, I know it’s a keeper. Sometimes it’s simply a phrase, sometimes a character, and sometimes just a super cool plot point.

What distracts you the most when you're trying to write?
Oh, the usual: Internet. Pinterest. Facebook. Twitter. It’s so hard to ignore social media!

Do you write by the seat of your pants, or do you carefully plot your stories?
I definitely define myself as a plotser. I usually try to write a short blurb about the story, then get the big plot points down. From there on out, I simply keep writing and find out what happens next along the way. Plotting has HUGE advantages, but strict plotting will never be my thing. I love writing more organically. It’s simply more enjoyable that way, getting to know what my characters will and won’t do next.

Who are three romance authors who turn you into a fangirl/fanboy?
Ooh! Jennifer L. Armentrout, Lauren Oliver, and John Green.

Is there a TV show that you’ve recently binge-watched?
I binged Westworld and I’m itching for season 2! Then I binged on The Magicians—and wow, that show is GOOD.

Do you listen to music while you write? What are some tunes on your playlist?
I always listen to music unless I’m doing serious edits. (Silence helps me focus when I need to the most.) My musical taste is eclectic. On my writing playlist I’ve got some Adam Lambert, Nothing More, Slipknot, Shinedown, Hozier, and Starset, along with many others. See? Quite eclectic.

What do you do in your spare time?
When I’m not writing, I’m either painting, working out, playing a video game (Resident Evil, anyone?), or performing in a burlesque show.

Do you have anything to add?
What’s your favorite tear-jerking organ transplant story? Please tweet me any news clips or YouTube videos! @LindseyMF I love a good cry every once and a while
About the author:
Lindsey has been writing since she was nine years old, when she discovered the awesomeness that is Harriet the Spy. Her books always include a romance, though sometimes there’s an added sci-fi or magical realism twist. She lives in Columbus, Ohio (where the weather is never quite right). Her BFA in Photography and Graphic Design has granted her a wide assortment of creative knowledge that serves as inspiration (and not much else). When she’s not crafting YA and NA stories, you'll likely find her spending waaay too much time on Pinterest, playing a video game, singing show-tunes, or performing in a burlesque show—because she enjoys giving her introversion a worthy adversary. (Plus, it's the closest to Broadway she’ll ever get.) Lindsey was a proud 2016 Pitch Wars Mentee and thoroughly adores being a part of the wonderful writing community. THE HEARTBEAT HYPOTHESIS is her debut novel.
