True love: their savior or their ruin - Emerge Beyond Circles (Eternal Coven, #1) by John Geers

"John Geers creates a beautiful story about the journey of finding true love. [...] Geers paints pictures for the reader’s mind with imagery that dazzles the senses. Twists and turns leave the reader turning pages until the end of the story hoping that true love will emerge victorious." - Fawna, Goodreads

Description:

Thuban-Pol is the latest in a lineage of Siberian witches. Their eternal aim is to guide humanity to true love. Their guiding tenet, “For love to bloom, these three endure: sacrifice, perseverance and suffering. But the greatest of these is suffering.” Since the dawn of humanity, they have summoned countless couples, inflicting suffering with the intention to grow true love. They have never succeeded…but now they have their best opportunity in two couples from Wisconsin.

Two couples from Madison, with entwined destinies, both seeking love, are connected by a single element: the ancient Siberian witch, Thuban-Pol. Her magic will either be their savior or their ruin.

Thuban-Pol is the latest in a lineage of Siberian witches. Their eternal aim is to guide humanity to true love. Their guiding tenet, “For love to bloom, these three endure: sacrifice, perseverance and suffering. But the greatest of these is suffering.”

Since the dawn of humanity, they have summoned countless couples, inflicting suffering with the intention to grow true love. They have never succeeded…but now they have their best opportunity in two couples from Wisconsin.

If they succeed, love will finally bloom for all of humanity, if the suffering inflicted on these couples doesn't kill them first.

MB INTERVIEW

1. Why did you choose Siberia to be the place of birth of the witches?
Siberia has long been a place of mystery. It is distant and unknown and shrouded in mystery. I wanted something as mysterious as an eternal coven of witches to be from a place just as mysterious. Even as a young boy I was drawn to distant Siberia. The cold harsh conditions seem impossible and yet it holds life. There is rich animal life including caribou, fox, the whistling swan, and ermine. The tundra is a complex weave of hardy plants and delicate flowers. When I began planning Emerge Beyond Circles I knew immediately that the coven needed to reside in brutal and beautiful Siberia.

2. There is an old saying that the real love is a sad one. Why did you choose those three “stages” for true love to bloom?
You are referring to the guiding tenet of the coven, “For love to bloom, these three endure: sacrifice, perseverance, and suffering. But the greatest of these is suffering." I have seen many people become closer through suffering. Life’s struggles can often draw us closer to our loved ones. But other times, they can rip us apart. It is the opinion of the coven that this is a risk worth taking. If you have wept in the arms of a lover then you understand. If you have sought refuge in your partner during your most heart wrenching moments, you know.

3. What is true love? (in your opinion and in Thuban-Pol’s opinion)
My opinion; true love is what remains when two people have been battered by life and they still cling to each other. It is the purest form of connection, it is where we are naked and bare and still treasured.

Thuban-Pol: Love is not conjured. It is forged in the furnace of suffering. Love gives all and demands all from those who profess it. The quest for love is eternal and worth all efforts ever expended in its pursuit.

4. It is said that the true love conquers all. Why does the true love from Emerge Beyond Circles needs help, a magical help? OR What is the significance of magic in Emerge Beyond Circles?
Love is not defined the same by every culture or in every age. The love sought by Thuban-Pol and her coven is a pure love. They measure love by the amount of suffering endured in its creation. They may or may not be misguided in their definition. Does love need magic or is love magic itself? The reader needs to decide that for themselves in their journey through Emerge Beyond Circles.

5. What does our day fantasy (paranormal) literature need?
I think all genres are strongest when they have a solid love story at their core. We all cheer for love. Even when we think we have given up on love for ourselves, when we read a compelling love story it rekindles our hopes for love in our own lives. We need more stories that compel us to find and create love in our own lives. I used that as a mission while writing Emerge Beyond Circles.

6. Which are (and why) the differences between the vision of a man and a woman writer about true love?
I spoke with a lot of individuals about their definition of true love during my research for Emerge Beyond Circles. Interestingly, and probably encouragingly, I found that men and women tend to define love in the same way.

As far as writing about love, I can say that as a man, I stayed focus on what we all want. And we all want someone to love and someone to love us back. With that vision as my foundation, I tried to write a genuine love story.
