All Amberlyn Darksky has ever wanted is to be normal.

Amber has never been ordinary. She has a gift, the ability to see memories through simple touch, and for her it’s a curse. Especially when she has to relive her mother’s death, on the night she was born, through her father’s eyes. Leading a sheltered life for years under his constant watch has her yearning for freedom and her acceptance into Cyprus Falls University gives her just that.

Plunged into a world of true love, heartache, seduction, and horror, with a deepening affection for Tayelon Cree, and the undeniable allure of Lucard Colbaine, can she accept what either of them represent in her life? And what about the steely-eyed vampire who invades her dreams?

When the blackouts and nightmares begin, Amber fears the pain that rips into her soul and threatens to destroy her. Before long, she is faced with the truth of her destiny as well as the devastating secrets that surround the people she holds dearest; dark secrets that will truly change the course of her very existence.

Amberlyn will have to fight as hard as possible to remain human while the beasts inside her rage to take over.

EXCERPT

After four whiskeys, Amber’s bladder started nagging her for release. She excused herself and made her way through the throng of people to the house on wobbly legs. Beyond tipsy at that point, she didn’t even take note of all the visions that dashed in and out of her head. As Amber made it to the hallway that led to the bathroom, Tayelon walked in followed closely by Deacon. She stopped dead in her tracks. Taye had once told her that he didn’t care much for the Greek system, so seeing him there almost floored her. Why would he come to this particular party? They made their way over to a group of their teammates who belonged to the fraternity and they greeted each other with the shoulder-bump-hug thing that guys always seem to do. She noticed Tristian was part of the group. No doubt he’d seen her and immediately called Tayelon. Amber was buzzing, but when Taye found her across the room, the memory of his rejection seared her heart. She quickly changed course, making her way back to the kitchen so she could escape to where Lucard was waiting for her outside. In her haste to get away, she hadn’t seen Lucard standing right in her path. He gripped her by the waist, pulling her against his body. She gazed up at him in surprise, her mouth forming a tiny O. Lucard smirked and then looked over her shoulder. She was sure he’d seen Taye across the room and they were locked in a stare down. Amber tugged on his T-shirt, bringing his attention back to her.

“Another one?” Lucard asked.

“Ah, no more whiskey for me, thanks.” She grabbed a bottle of tequila off the kitchen counter. “This will do, though.” She might as well try to find her way back to the numbness that had taken over a short while ago, and cheap tequila would do just the trick.

Amber took a swig from the bottle and scrunched her face up at the awful taste. It was like drinking gasoline. She took another sip before handing the bottle off to a girl in a barely-there skirt and bikini top.

Lucard chuckled at her reaction. He was leaning close to her, too close. She could smell the alcohol on his breath. Normally, she would have been repulsed by it, but the tequila had gone straight to her head, dulling all of her senses—just as she’d hoped it would. She looked back over to where Tayelon stood. He was deep in conversation with Deac. Luna had joined them but she stood off to the side, glaring at Amber with disapproval.

“Looks like your friends aren’t too pleased with us right now.” Lucard didn’t miss Luna’s scowl either.

“Don’t care, I’m having too much fun.” Her throat was on fire, but she ignored it. “How about some beer?” She took a step back, and Lucard moved quickly to stop her from toppling over.

“Whoa, I think someone has had too much to drink.” A beefy looking jock in a Letterman jacket, with nothing underneath it but washboard abs, steadied her before Lucard managed to grab her. He reminded her of one of those toothpaste commercial models—with blindingly white teeth and too perfect lips. He used his good looks to worm his way into the underwear of any girl who foolishly found herself in his way; the many faces that flashed before her eyes were testament to that. Amber blinked them away.

“What’s your name?” He slurred.

“She’s with me.” Lucard barked and pulled her away from the frat boy. “Did you eat anything today?” He questioned her.

“Does chocolate count?” She giggled and hiccupped at the same time, looking back at Mr. Tight and Toned. He would certainly know how to make her forget about Tayelon.

Lucard grabbed her chin and forced her gaze up to his. He was not pleased.
“I don’t need food, only more alcohol.” Amber snorted.
