GUEST POST
"The Double Personality"
I live a double life: college professor by day and fiction writer by night. Most of the time, I don't think about it. When I started writing, using a pen name just made sense. My books all include graphic sex scenes (for me, it's no fun if I don't get to write the sex) and it's already challenging to keep a room full of 18 to 22 year-olds focused. I can only imagine the giggles and mayhem if one of them figured out their professor wrote some demon porn. And with college students, once one knows, they all know.
I do end up feeling a little disingenuous when I do guest posts or answer interview questions because I'm not being entirely honest about who I am. My answers are true, but it still feels like I'm fibbing. It's especially uncomfortable to use a photo that isn't me. I didn't think much about the peripheral parts that go along with publishing—author websites and profiles or advertising and book tours—until after deciding using a pen name was the right path. I guess that's one downside of being self-published.
I also feel a little weird since not all of my friends know that I write under a pen name. It's never happened, but I always wonder if one day someone is going to react poorly to the reveal. Since I teach college, I don't have to worry that my employers care about what I do with my free time. (Though, I have to say, isn't it crappy than primary and secondary school teachers do have to care?) Occasionally, I find myself wondering if my students would react at all. They'd probably yawn and ask if it was going to be on the next test.

About the author:
Anna Wolfe is a college professor by day and a novelist by night. In fact, writing urban fantasy is the only reason she is still (mostly) sane post-dissertation. When she isn't writing, teaching, or dicking around on the Internet, she is probably cooking with her husband or watching trashy television.
