Jennifer Anne Davis’ best-selling True Reign series captivated readers from the very first page. Now, get ready to become entangled in the follow-up series, Reign of Secrets. In this new series, follow Allyssa, the daughter of the beloved Emperor Darmik and Empress Rema— and find out what happens after happily ever after.

Seventeen-year-old Allyssa appears to be the ideal princess of Emperion—she’s beautiful, elegant, and refined. She spends her days locked in a suffocating cage, otherwise known as royal court. But at night, Allyssa uses her secret persona—that of a vigilante—to hunt down criminals and help her people firsthand.

Unfortunately, her nightly escapades will have to wait because the citizens of Emperion may need saving from something much bigger than common criminals. War is encroaching on their country and in order to protect her people, Allyssa may have to sacrifice her heart. Forced to entertain an alliance through marriage with a handsome prince from a neighboring kingdom, she finds herself feeling even more stifled than before. To make matters worse, the prince has stuck his nosy squire, Jarvik, to watch her every move.

Jarvik is infuriating, bossy and unfortunately, the only person she can turn to when she unveils a heinous plot. Together, the unlikely pair will have to work together to stop an enemy that everyone thought was long gone, one with the power to destroy her family and the people of Emperion. Now the cage Allyssa so longed to break free from might just be the one thing she has to fight to keep intact. In order to save her kingdom, she will have to sacrifice her freedom, her heart, and maybe even her life.

GUEST POST
Arranged marriages and love stories

I find arranged marriages intriguing.

First of all, my book takes place in a sort of medieval time period and the main character is royalty. So arranged marriages are necessary and common. How can a woman be a strong character when she’s forced to do something she doesn’t want to? So many books deal with rebelling. But a true ruler, a good ruler, can’t rebel. She must take the choices she’s faced with and deal with them.

With Cage of Deceit, I wanted to explore not only how Princess Allyssa would handle the situation, but also the man she’s betrothed to. What happens when you take two hot-headed, loyal, dedicated characters and force them into something? Can there be love when it’s forced?

It was also important to me that Allyssa be strong—that she tackle her situation head first, never backing down. Not only is she a trained fighter, but she is strong inside. She has two loving parents who are there for her which makes her a better person. That’s something I find lacking in books these days. It’s also interesting to explore the fact that her parents, who love each other immensely, did NOT have an arranged marriage. Allyssa wants a loving relationship similar to what her parents have. Her parents have a hard time even asking her to marry the prince from another kingdom for this very reason. However, countless lives are counting on this family to keep them safe. So the arranged marriage is considered.

However, in Allyssa’s kingdom, she is set to inherit the throne—which means she will outrank her husband. I love the idea of putting a man on the throne with her, but giving her the power. How does that make him feel? Especially when he comes from a kingdom he is set to inherit? She wants someone by her side that can help share the burden of ruling the largest kingdom on the continent and thus has a lot of trouble coming to terms with the arranged marriage for this reason. Is the man worthy to stand by her side? Besides a lethal army at his beck and call, what does he bring to the table?

To find out, read Cage of Deceit and join Allyssa’s journey as she navigates the sticky situation of an arranged marriage.
