  1. Thanks for the giveaway! I don't usually read historical fiction. ;)

  2. Historical fiction is my favorite Cali Willette! I loved A Desperate Fortune by Susanna Kearsley. It has two strong interesting female main characters, lots of adventure in the past and present times, some romance and happy endings too!

  3. I don't usually read straight up romance because I find the heroines are usually vapid and the cheesiness of the dialogue bothers me!

  4. I don't read sports romance :) mainly cuz I'm not into sports. But Susan T! there are some awesome contemporary romance! Jill Shalvis, Jennifer Crusie, Tawna Fenske, just to name a few are very sweet and funny romances that I always get sucked into. They are realistic so it's like watching a rom com movie :) thanks for the awesome giveaway!

  5. @ Susan T. there are some romances that aren't cheesy, sometimes I feel the same way with love triangles :/ you just have to find the right book I guess. ;) Try some new adult romance.

  9. Since changing careers, I have abandoned non-fiction. I now use reading more for escape and entertainment than education.

  10. In defense of sports romances. I am not a sports fan, at all. The only sport I participated in was 25 years ago and it was track, but I love reading sports romances. Why? The men are always super fit, for one, and they usually work hard to get their woman, because they are super competitive. I feel there is usually this extra dimension to the story, like the sport is a secondary character and I always find it a fun aspect.

  11. I don't really read a whole lot of thriller or horror books. I primarily read fantasy/paranormal, so I usually don't venture out too much. Great giveaway!

  12. I generally don't read a lot of romance. It's a genre I'm not very familiar with and based on the covers of most of them, they're not really written for me anyway.

Annie, the beauty of fantasy novels is the pure escape into another world. Whether it's the wizarding world of Harry Potter or Tolkien's Lord of the Rings, being in another world for a time can be a great vacation from the real world we live in.

  13. I don't read a lot of Paranormal.

@Annie- you really should try fantasy! Maybe The Graceling Series by Kristin Cashore... The writing and the character development in fantasy novels is just great and you'll love it!

  14. True Crime. I read the newspaper and listen to the tv news, that's enough true life crime for me.

i usually dont know the genre of books im reading but i think most of the books if not all the books i read are considered fantasy.. my favorite genre is post apocalyptic survival/fiction books, but i also like fantasy i cant give you an example of a fantasy book bc i dont know which books i already read are fantasy or not xD i try not to read high fantasy bc english is not my main language so if its high fantasy i may not understand/ or i will be confused.. when i think of fantasy i think about fairies and kings and princesses and worlds of magic and kingdoms and all that stuff that is set in the past.. but i think im wrong i think there is fantasy books which are set in the future and dont have that historical language.. u just need to find i kind of fantasy that u would like, that maybe has a bit of that genre u already like or has something u like in it.. wait a second harry potter is consider fantasy right?? idk .. but yeah i cant force u to read fantasy or like it.. its the same when people recommend me contemporary books i will probably wont read it..

  17. @ Ty

LOL. I love romance - but I will admit, some of the covers are atrocious. You should never let a cover be the deciding factor though! The Winter King by C.L. Wilson has a very bleh cover (it's pretty, but not pleasing), but the book itself is AMAZING. One of the best I've ever read :D

  22. I usually don't read western novels. I just am not interested in gunfights and cattle drives.

  23. Sam Kozbial I can understand you wanting to avoid nonfiction due to it being not relaxing and more educational. However, there are some fiction stories that give the reader the background as to why the story was written. For instance, The Diary of Anne Frank... we know the family was persecuted for their religious beliefs, but to read about how they hid for years and still survived is an amazing feat and a wonderful read. (Just my opinion of course.) :)

  55. I don't usually read classics because of the old English, sometimes the plot can be slow, and the writing style can be too wordy rather than being straight to the point.

    ReplyDelete
  56. I don't usually read contemp. it doesn't allow me to escape from real life as fully as the other genres do.

  57. I don't really read romance. It's not that I don't like love or romance or romantic feelings. It's just that I'm more of an action-packed, adventure, suspense, and fantasy kind of gal. I like "cool," "heroic," and self-discovery or self-development moments and journeys more. Not going to lie but romance just makes me go "ick" sometimes because I'd rather much focus on adventure.

  58. Isabel R.,

I can get kind of understand how you feel about the classics. When I was in high school, most of my friends preferred not to read the classics for the same or similar reasons as yours. The old English was mostly the biggest reason and the wordiness was second. It's kind of hard getting through the old English, but I would really recommend you reading the classics because there's this sort of richness to them.

When I read the old classics, I find that there's this "voice" and passion in them that is just so beautiful. Not to say that modern books don't have them, but the way writers wrote then is different than the now. I find the words and voice in old Classics so beautiful and filled with this flowing richness. There's also a lot of wisdom in the classics that is a little rare in most modern books. Plus, the old Classics include a lot of lovely and velvety prose that is just really great.
