Review and Giveaway Moonsongs Anthology 1 (Moonsongs, Books #1, #2, #3) by E.J. Wesley

REVIEW:

At first glance you might say that we are dealing with another work in which the innocent young woman become (overnight) a warrior that secretly fights against monsters, protecting us and our world without any reward or token of gratitude.

However, this is not the case. Moonsongs doesn’t promise a happy ending for all. You don’t find yourself in that moment when you say as a reader that the destination is unimportant, but the journey. In Jenni’s story (stories), the denouement comes with a good dose of the unexpected. E.J. Wesley managed very well to keep you plugged in, make you hope until the last moment that something good will happen, so you will enjoy both the travel and the "surprise" destination.

In the first three books we don’t get too much testosterone. The diluted solution of it brought by the main characters will spice and flavor the events, but without deprive them by a good portion of gore. So be prepared also for scenes and moments of suspense in blood soaked, but do not worry! The author succeeded to describe these scenes in a realistic way, although not one that would make you stop reading or skip those fragments.

Characters nonconformity is well chosen and provides a good share of originality. Their reactions are natural, even if none of them would have thought it possible to get in a position to fight monsters. Jenny and Marshal complement each other in battle and thinking. One knows who it is, the other is to discover.
“Damn it all girl. We’re Apache. More importantly, we’re Moonsong. Hunting flows in our blood right along with the oxygen. Just search for it.”
„You know, you really don’t look the part of Sacagawea. I think Schmidt suits you better.”
The way books are created and now grouped, made me think to the TV series format. We have pilot episode- Blood Fugue – that trigger the adventure and provides the main line of the story and stand alone episodes, Witch's Nocturne and Dark Prelude, but united by the main thread of the story. Because I mentioned the titles of books and that, isn’t it, each of us perceive differently an artistic act, I would mention here the author writing subtility, subtlety that is reflected also through musical connotations in the given titles.

Let's summarize: likable characters, adventure, unexpected, thrill, some gore, but also humor, a little (this I want more) Native American myths, a cursive and easy to read style without being shabby and the promise of new and dangerous confrontation. Obviously, Moonsongs deserves your attention!
The monster’s feet thudded in the night ahead of me, a frantic war drum pounding out a rhythm of bloodlust and pursuit.

About the author:
Growing up in small-town Oklahoma, there were limits on the amount and types of entertainment at my disposal. Perhaps that’s why I set my imagination free. After collecting degrees in psychology and counseling, life brought me to Missouri, Texas, and Northern California—where I currently read, write, and live. I fill my spare time playing video games, watching movies, planning for the zombie apocalypse, reading graphic novels, and playing with my dogs.

My passion for New Adult literature led me to producing the weekly New Adult Lit Chat on Twitter, and contributing to the NA Alley Blog. I’m also the author of the Moonsongs Books, a series of New Adult, speculative-rural fantasy novelettes.
