Release Date: October 31st, 2018

The last thing Hope Hallows wants is to become the latest headline. Living in a town that likes secrets, she prefers to keep hers hidden. Avoiding a nosy reporter’s questions about her ability to infuse euphoria or despair with a single touch, and those who crave this bliss, is nothing new. But having her brother’s annoying girlfriend, Berta, go missing is—especially when it makes Hope suspect number one.

As a triplet, her resemblance to her beloved dead sister causes her family to grieve even more, and her escalating supernatural skills makes Griffith, her half-human-half-Oppressor boyfriend, wary. He wants to put his unsavory past behind him—this could include Hope—since her abilities remind him of the Underworld.

In her desperate search to find Berta, she stumbles across a tunnel. Phantom voices within whisper that evil has been waiting for a new leader—and isn't she lucky, they've chosen Hope.

EXCERPT

“I swear you have a death wish. Are you looking for any excuse to use your abilities again?”

I started at the ferocity in his remark and straightened in defense. He was supposed to be my ally, but I should’ve anticipated his reaction. “I had no choice.”

“Only because you chose to take her in the woods in the first place.” The tiny haze of lights ignited around him as his frustration built.

I pushed my hands in my pockets to prevent from reaching for him for my own selfish comfort. He had to understand. Griffith was the only one who understood me. He was my rock in this ever-changing town. “I had to help look for Berta. There isn’t a choice in everything. I couldn’t let Chance go alone. Yes, I went because it was my idea in the first place, but also because he’s my brother. It’s not safe for him.”

His gaze locked with mine. “You didn’t worry about yourself? Or consider how much worry you’ve caused me? Damn it Hope, you, of all people, should realize what lurks undercover in the daylight has little fear at night and outside of town.”

Griffith always saw right through my petty motives. The trait was what I loved and hated about him.

About the author:
Maureen lives in small town Pennsylvania and her love of the four seasons —biking, sweat pants, hockey and hibernation—keep her there. Surviving twins gave her the confidence to learn to belly dance, declare herself a tequila connoisseur, act as biker babe to her alpha hubby and to release the characters from her imagination. These adventures, and a love of sarcasm, help her craft paranormal and fantasy stories full of fun, family, magic and mayhem. She survives on caffeine, wine, music and laughter. A feisty Shih Tzu keeps her in line.

  10. What inspired you to start writing?

  11. Becky, I'd have to say that I've always enjoyed writing. It's my passion and those darn characters just never leave me alone for long, lol. It just took a long time to realize that being an author was a possibility.

  12. Oh and I forgot to answer your questions about e-books or print. I buy both, but have more e-books right now because it's nice to just grab my kindle and have a lot of books to choose from. Plus I can read in the dark without the lamp. But there's something about holding a print book in your hands. So I often buy both from my favorite authors, the e-book and the print version.

  14. Yes, Becky. For as long as I can remember I've wanted to be a writer, it just took me awhile to pursue it seriously.

  18. How long does it usually take you to write a book?

    ReplyDelete
  19. Ah, the writing is usually the easy part. If I'm participating in NaNoWri (National Novel Writing Month in November) I can get 50,000+ words on the page that month. The hard part is editing and getting the story polished enough to share with the world.

  20. Do you aim for a set amount of pages/words per day?

    ReplyDelete
  21. If I'm on a deadline I set word counts per day, or for sprints.

  22. What is the hardest thing about writing?

    ReplyDelete
  23. One of the hardest things about writing is knowing when to stop editing and polishing, another would be having to set the story aside when life demands I pay attention when I'd rather be spending time with my characters. :)

  25. How did the cover come about?

  26. Hi Becky! Ever since I got a kindle, I got into the habit of reading multiple books at once- sometimes it's just so hard to decide! I recently finished Witch's Reign by Shannon Mayer.
I had some ideas for the cover but fabulous cover artist Debbie Taylor from DCA Graphics made is amazing!
I'd love to hear what everyone else is reading to fill up my kindle even more.
