REVIEW

Chosen by R.S. Broadhead is the first volume of The Urban Legends Series. If you like the books that mix fantasy, mystery, magic and are peppered with a bit of romance just for flavor, it means you've won the jackpot.

Again we will soar into the darkness of the human soul.
R.S. Broadhead will arm us for this trip only with a simple flashlight, but even more, we’ll have the surprise that in full journey this will start to malfunction and, at some point, it will stop completely. Did I make you curious? I hope so! Because her book is one that will not coddle her characters, but everything is just to offer you a story as exciting and attractive as possible. I’m certain that the aficionados of the above genres will be fully satisfied. To my contentment, at least for this novel and most of the books I have read lately, the authors, like R.S. Broadhead, do not waste time with too descriptive introductions, excessive protagonists’ characterization, or who knows what else that could bore readers. No, it all starts determined, almost blunt. And I'm not talking about those stories that feature a non-linear course in which both action and characters are presented in a manner that does not respect the timeline of the story. I’m talking about a story with a clear timeline, where everything comes in a readable way. But what may seem logical and rational does not mean that it cannot pass at any moment in irrational, fantastic and supernatural. And once you get the supernatural, everything will be exacerbated

All human feelings, good or bad, and everything we think we can keep hidden in the depths of our soul will find a way to surface not exactly at the best moments. R.S. Broadhead knows how to skillfully exploit this aspect of our nature. And not only that, the author knows precisely how to dose the emotion she will pass within the pages of her book. Everything will be graded, everything will accumulate and will erupt at the right time when the whole tension of the story will come to paroxysm. The book has its own pace, not too alert, not too slow, just good to accumulate the suspense, so characteristic for the mystery novels. From where the story goes and how it will end, you will find out by yourself reading the book. One thing I can tell you, this is an unexpected ending story. Not so much in what regards the subject, but how its characters will evolve. In fact, this evolution of the characters may some please some of you, or not. That's it! But the conclusion is the eternal one: the debts always must be paid!

Enjoy the creepiness!

Black eyes. No emotion. No sympathy. Only emptiness.

Piper McAdams’s life was normal. Career? Check. Boyfriend? Check. Friends? Check. One unsettling run in with a homeless man turns everything from normal to terrifying. She begins seeing…things.
Things she can’t seem to explain or make any sense.

As if things aren’t already getting out of hand, Piper receives news that the only family member she has is dead. She thinks maybe a trip across the country to her hometown will get her away from all the strange events happening.

After a late night accident, Piper isn’t in her hometown burying her loved one. She’s in a town called Hell. All she wants to do is leave, but the people seem to be holding her there for some reason.
A reason she feels threatens her life. Around every corner things become darker and scarier.
Can she escape what is coming for her?

  1. As an author, how does one know when to end the book or save more for a sequel?
