For decades, Earth has been ravaged by unpredictable weather which began to cause crops to fail. Most of the planet’s food sources have deteriorated. Dr. Clayton Rudo has proclaimed he has the means to save the soil. He has created a weather machine to regulate and help replenish. But Ember knew the truth. He didn’t want to save the planet. He wanted to control it. Amethyst destroyed the machine, but was placed in stasis. Two years later, Rudo recreated the device and has frozen Washington, DC and the west coast of the United States.

General Tom Blanchard brought Amethyst out of stasis to work with an elite Air Force team, led by Major Liam Ross. Tensions between Ember and Liam rise as they butt heads. Can they work together before Earth is completely under ice?

GUEST POST

The creation process can be interesting to witness or so I’m told. When I first sit down to write, my husband says I look like a crazy woman. My eyes so focused on the screen, sucking in my bottom lip. A Pepsi next to me and a bag of chips or something sweet. Or I’m writing like a madwoman in a notebook. Either way, he says he’s learned to leave me alone when it comes time for me to begin a new manuscript. Often he’s not going to reach me for the first few attempts and when I do look up, I’m “scary.”

I don’t outline much of the actual story but I will flesh the characters out. I have an orange notebook which I’ve written 90% of a new sci-fi romance story in. The first few pages is a list of characters, their attributes and personalities. Often I reflect back on those first few pages to keep myself in check. Once my ear buds go in, no one should disturb me.

Music is a big component to help drown everything out. Often I will put my media player on random and just let it go. Alternative rock, 80’s, pop, some country. My musical tastes are very random. Pat Benatar’s Invincible inspired the first chapter in the first book in the Amethyst Chronicles. Seriously. Read the first chapter while listening to the song. Often I write in chronological order. It’s rare if a scene speaks loud enough for me to write it out of sync. Even though I use the program Scrivener to write, often I’m paranoid I’m going to lose things.

I don’t have a set time when I write. I wish I could have a schedule down like that. Often I write early mornings or at work. I work in an inbound customer service call center so if I’m not on a call, I’m handwriting in a notebook. Each of my stories has their own notebooks so I can keep things organized when I’m not in front of my computer. Usually, there is a method to the madness. Handwrite when I can and on Sundays, I try to transcribe. Doesn’t always happen but I type 60 wpm so it’s not a problem once I get into the groove. That’s the biggest thing for me. Once I get on a roll, it’s hard to stop me.

Everyone has their own writing style and methods. To outline or not. Morning or night. Music or not. Handwriting or typing. I like to mix it all and see what happens. Typically it’s just what I am in the mood to focus on. My process is to write when I can, keep everything organized, and always have fun. That’s the most important thing.
