Can she trust him not to betray her? - First Blade (Awakening #1) by Jane Hinchey

As the only half vampire, half angel in existence, Zak Goodwin is an unbeatable foe and unashamed womanizer. With his band of warriors, he rids the earth of demons, while guarding a ring created from the blood of angels – a ring that, when coupled with an ancient dagger, has the power to destroy the earth. Only the dagger has been lost for centuries and no matter how great Zak’s power, it remains out of reach.

Description:

As the only half vampire, half angel in existence, Zak Goodwin is an unbeatable foe and unashamed womanizer. With his band of warriors, he rids the earth of demons, while guarding a ring created from the blood of angels – a ring that, when coupled with an ancient dagger, has the power to destroy the earth. Only the dagger has been lost for centuries and no matter how great Zak’s power, it remains out of reach.

That is until Georgia Pearce, an ordinary human with psychic abilities, stumbles across the dagger hidden on her property, and the connection between the ring and dagger is activated.

With ancient vampires hot on her tail, Georgia risks it all to keep her loved ones safe, including her heart. Can she trust Zak not to betray her?

GUEST POST
Girls and Their Blades

There is something badass about a girl with a blade. You know it just by the fact that she has a razor sharp weapon and she knows how to use it. The badass is implied. The “don’t mess with me” factor is tenfold.

That’s why Georgia, the heroine in First Blade, is intrinsically linked to the dagger known as first blade.

Hi, I’m Jane Hinchey, author of First Blade and I’m so thrilled Mythical Books invited me into their blog to say hi and talk about my book.

So the title First Blade is based on the ancient dagger that has magical, mystical abilities. But it isn’t about finding the dagger and using it. The dagger is linked to a ring that our hero, Zak, half angel/half vampire wears. And the story follows the connection between these two items and how it brings Georgia and Zak together.

Why a blade?

Because of the mythology. I wanted an item steeped in the past, in legend and folklore and tales around the campfire. Mythology is fascinating, as a writer I weave myth into all of my stories, and as a reader, on some deep level we never stop believing that it’s possible. That the urban fantasy creatures {and their weapons} DO exist. Trolls, fae, angels, werewolves, vampires, the list goes on. That brings us into the realm of swords, arrows, daggers. It’s ancient and primeval, it’s blood and lust, fire and ice.

So why did Georgia have the blade and Zak the ring and not the other way around?

Why should boys get all the fun! Georgia is ballsy. She’s tough. She’s a strong, independent woman who doesn’t need rescuing. She gets in bar room brawls, drinks more than is wise, yet you love her for it. She fights hard and loves harder. Georgia knows how to handle herself, giving her the dagger amped up her kickass factor, which I couldn’t resist! Plus Zak has all this other angel/vampire power going on, he doesn’t need the dagger.

If you’d like to read more about Zak and Georgia, you can grab the first two chapters for free over on my website.
