Excerpt and Giveaway: Lily (The Blackwood Wolves Saga #1) by Bonnie Bliss

Description:

Lily Blackwood is torn between two strong men...

One, Wallace is her perfect idea of a partner, loving, loyal and handsome. The second, Bryn, is her true mate, the man chosen for her by nature and her family. Wallace Kirk is assigned to protect the beautiful Lily since her birth...

EXCERPT

Before he could move, Wallace was in his face. “So, you decided to bring her home at long last Mr. Kemp, proud of yourself?”

“Wallace Kirk I presume, I expected you to be—”

“Bigger?”

“Better looking.” Bryn felt the heat against his face but didn’t relent, he stood his ground. Wallace was everything he expected and more. He could feel the raw power coming from him. It was so strong he felt he might waver. Bryn was six foot two, yet Wallace towered over him. There was a great deal of confidence too, hitting him in the face like a wave. However, Bryn never stood down, in his short wolf life he knew that to stand firm and strong was as good as any swing of a wayward fist. Wallace wasn’t going to intimidate him, he was determined to give as good as he got.

“Smart ass too, I like smart, but ass…no. I guess I’m going to have to drill some manners into you, boy.”

That particular word pissed Bryn off a little, yet this wolf facing him overwhelmed him. He knew if he used more than harsh words, he’d have harsh wounds to match. “I’m not a boy.”

“Compared to me, you’re a kid in nappies. Hell, you haven’t even reached the twinkle in your Daddy’s eyes yet. You’re thirty. That makes you my pup.”

Bryn’s lip curled at the edge. “There a point to this? I got her home safe.”

Wallace moved forward. “Good job you did. You decide to come back after spending a pitiful five years with her and expect to replace me, just like that.”

Bryn had no choice but to shift back to avoid being touched. “I was just—”

“Following orders pup, yeah sure. Lily is a young woman, she’s impressionable, thinks she’s ready for anything. Then you come along and her fucking hormones and her wolf are in turmoil. I sensed it earlier, she was out of control. You come here when she’s in heat, bringing her mate to the door in that big bold exterior, sending her emotions all over the place.”

“She is my mate, my chosen mate, Wallace. You have to live with it okay? You have to go, you have to move on and let Lily and I become one. Your time is done here. I’m sorry about what happened to you five years ago, I’m sorry your bitch was taken from you, but that’s not my fault or yours.”

Too late, Bryn felt himself hoisted up against the stone, lifted a foot off the floor.

“You don’t get it do yer? That isn’t a question smart ass, it’s a fact. I have protected her since the day she came out of her mother’s womb. I was always there, her big bad wolf, ready to die for her.”

*********

“All these victims are females, more to the point, female wolves…Blackwood Pack wolves. I knew three of them, Wallace even more. They’re part of our family.”

An icy chill chose that moment to ripple up and down her spine. Her arms came up again to cross over her chest. She was closing herself off. Fear had a funny way of forcing your body to react in ways you didn’t want them to. Lily started to speak. Her throat suddenly dry, she cleaned it on a cough and finally spoke, in a whisper, almost like a mouse. “What does this have to do with me?”

“I think deep down you know why, but I’ll spell it out for you. We believe that someone is trying to draw bigger prey out in the open. We don’t know who but we think they’re trying to get to either you or your sister.”

Lily knew this time would come. The rise of her wolf and her place in the pack was coming to the fore. Her sister and father let her do her thing, biding their time and just waiting for something to happen that would spark her dominant gene, pick a mate, and step up to take charge. Peering down at the pictures, she realized that now was the moment she had to step back. A deep part of Lily knew that she was never a human woman. She was wolf. She closed her eyes tight, took a deep breath and let the air out slow. Then, she turned towards Wallace. “What does this mean for me, not just as a Blackwood, as a wolf? Be honest. We both knew at some point this…” She motioned toward her home, referring more to her life. “…was temporary.”

“It’s time for you to grow, to become the wolf both of us know you are capable of becoming, that’s what it means for you Lily. You need more than I can give you, you need a mate.”

Lily rubbed her hands down her face. A mate was inevitable. She’d always known this. She hid from the truth under the misguided impression that she could just avoid it. Why? Maybe the idea of having Wallace. In him, there was a comfort she wasn’t willing to let go of. There was no chance for pregnancy, or longing love.

He would find his mate one day—she knew this. Yet, something inside her rebelled against the idea of a mate because she knew that with the mate, came the responsibility. Her father had always told her she was the one. Her sister Catherine wasn’t meant to be an Alpha. She was. Duty, loyalty, responsibility. She was so fucked. It was time, and it slammed into her with all the subtly of a sledgehammer.

Will I fail?

That’s what this all came down to. She was worried she would make a shitty mate and shitty Alpha. She was too curious, too weak, too—human. She also didn’t like acting like an authoritative twat like the other Alpha females. Her mother had died before she knew what a true woman of power could and should be like. Lily could feel the penetrating gazes of Mike and Wallace as she sat and just stared at the murder scenes. She would be safer with a mate, stronger even. This was a knowledge that her wolf sang over.

Bonnie Bliss is the brain child of two authors. Bonnie is a husband and wife duo who have come together to weave stories of passion, action, betrayal, and ultimate surrender. They have discovered that mixing genres is their thing. Their tastes go dark, and they love to twist up sweet stories and make them a bit more tense and sexy. Bonnie writes in multiple genres with plans to dabble into more areas of fiction.

One is a Southern California native, the other was born and raised in Yorkshire, England. The husband spends his time giving the wife alpha males with bite. He is a man that needs to see his world in print. He has a panty melting accent, loves listening to music, watching Game of Thrones, and obsessing over Heisenberg. The wife spends her time writing strong women that evolve into their power, they don’t just come out guns blazing. She claims the song California Girls, by Katy Perry is totally accurate. She’s done everything from waitressing, customer service phone rep., Corporate Real Estate, and spent a pretty impressive part of her life working for the Disney Corporation—before finding her way into the publishing world with her husband.
