MB's INTERVIEW
Thank you, Mrs. Rachel McClellan

The first book of the series, Fractured Light, was published in early 2012. How the series evolved from 2012 to 2014? There were some relevant changes?
For the Auras, a lot changed. Their entire way of living was turned upside down, including their belief system. Llona also grew by learning and understanding the power within her.

There are so many authors that, as you, are members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Later Day Saints (aka Mormon). Did your convictions influence your writing or your characters’ actions?
I don’t think so. I’d like to think that Mormon or not, I’d still write about strong female characters and I’d still want to write “clean” books without a lot of vulgarity or sex. Sure a lot of teens do these things, but the types of stories I write can be written without these things in them.

What does the Light, Soul and Truth represent for Llona? What is their significance?
Light and truth exist within in us all (our soul). However, it’s up to us to discover that truth for ourselves. This “light and truth” may be different for all of us, but once we find it, we will have discovered our own inner power. This strength will carry us throughout the rest of our lives.

For Llona, she first had to discover the Light within her and learn to use it. However, after she’s bitten by a Vyken, she also has darkness to contend with and this “fractures” her soul. It’s only when she learn the “truth”, that she is made whole again.

Some of the readers say that Young Adult is… not good enough for them. What do they lose in your opinion? Why YA Literature deserve readers’ attention, regardless their age?
I think that by reading young adult novels, we can discover an excitement for life that we may have lost as we’ve grown older. Also, teenagers are often fearless. They aren’t afraid to make tough choices even if they aren’t always the right ones. Adults can learn from this. As for YA literature, The Book Thief is a must for any adult. I also think a lot can be learned from the book The Fault in Our Stars.

Tell us a secret about your Idaho and its secret supernatural creatures… or some myth that influenced you. Do you have friends among them? Will we meet with some of them in Fractured Light Series?
Ah, Idaho. I grew up in the country and spent most of my free time in the forest. My imagination was allowed to flourish there. I was always running from or fighting “something” from werewolves, to vampires, to witches. It was always a battle of good vs. evil. I love this theme and it shows in my storytelling.

About the author:
Rachel McClellan was born and raised in Idaho, a place secretly known for its supernatural creatures. When she’s not in her writing lair, she’s partying with her husband and four crazy, yet lovable, children. Rachel’s love for storytelling began as a child when the moon first possessed the night. For when the lights went out, her imagination painted a whole new world. And what a scary world it was…
