no other way - Back to Me by Kelly Miles

"This is not the genre that I would normally read. It looked like a romance novel. I took it on a recommendation. I’m so glad I did.The story is told from the perspectives of Heather and Billy. It tells the story of a broken man who has to track down his lost love. But it’s not quite that simple. There are many shadowy elements to the story that will keep you on your toes right to the end. As a story in itself it is superbly done. It has elements of cat and mouse, loss, love, action, and mystery." - Goodreads, Phil Price

Description:

Published: November 30th, 2015

Billy is alone, but he’s used to it. After being shot six years ago, the love of his life left him in the hospital, fighting for his life. It left him an empty shell of a man and he no longer wants the responsibility of looking after anyone; he’s barely looking after himself. Alcohol is the only thing he’s interested in. That is until Blake, his old FBI partner shows up unexpectedly.

Heather doesn’t want to be saved. She’s just fine being on her own. She’s fought for the last six years to survive, trying to outrun the mistake that cost her everything. When Billy shows up out of the blue, she’s forced to face the pain that still threatens to rip her apart.

When Billy goes back into the FBI the danger is insurmountable, but he sees no other way. He’s doing it for redemption; redemption for all the damage he’s caused and the monster he’s become. He’s willing to risk his life to avenge Heather, but will it all come crashing down this time, solidifying their end once and for all?

GUEST POST
Old Problems, New Stories

This is a tricky scenario. There have been a million stories about love. About romance. About characters falling in love with each other. Each new story has probably been replicated from another similar story in the past: Dana’s car breaks down. She falls in love with the mechanic. That could be a story. Totally believable. But the romance may not be up to scratch. It’s down to the author to weave a spell for the reader. They create characters who are real. Who are flawed. Who are human. Then pairing them with a compatible character. But not just compatible. There has to be a connection. The way her breath catches in her throat when she sees him. The way he squirms when she nuzzles his neck. It’s all about the author creating the love and romance that the reader can identify with. The feeling that will make the reader want to revisit that page; to feel that warm fuzzy feeling that they’ve had at some point in their lives. Any author can write a sex scene. It has been done countless times. But it takes a special kind of author that can pull off love. To have feelings leap from the page at you, making you flush.

When you find that in a book, it’s magical. It brings the rest of the story together. It makes the reader want to turn the page to see how that love develops. To see the journey that the characters take together, whether it’s a happy ending or not. To feel the anguish that the characters feel. The heartache. The longing to love and be loved in return. The true emotions that we all face day to day. The feelings that we can identify with. It may even offer solace to the reader, who may be going through their own turmoil.

It is after all, what makes the world go round.

For me personally, I observe people as much as I can. Strangers can reveal a lot about themselves, whether standing in line at the supermarket or on a date, sitting across from one another in a romantic restaurant. I also draw from my own personal experiences. When I receive a text message from my love, my lips automatically curl into a smile. My face flushes and my heart flutters. Even when I can’t see him or be with him, I imagine his breath on me as he leans in for a kiss. Every woman can relate to that, I think, and the power that it holds. How it makes you weak in the knees. I love that feeling and because I have felt it in its rawest form, it’s easy to plug that into my stories.

About the author:
Kelly Miles is an author, editor and publisher, but her greatest accomplishments are being a wife and mother. She lives in a small town in Tennessee, minutes from her childhood home. The youngest of three siblings, Kelly has always loved reading and writing short stories. To date, she has published two novels, MONTANA SKY and BACK TO ME. Both are available through Amazon.com.

In addition, she is currently working on her third book, BLAKE’S HOPE, set for release in mid-late 2016. All three books are considered a series, but can certainly be read as stand-alone novels as well. TORMENTED is in the works for 2017.

Kelly has two teenage boys who keep her busy. She has been fortunate enough to be a stay-at-home mom, which has afforded her the opportunity to spend more time with her children, and of course, to write. Writing is her passion. Her goal is to spread the love for her characters, her stories, and invite you into another world. Sometimes the writing is difficult, but she enjoys the creativity that it allows. Her hope is to spread the joy, and yes, sometimes torturing world of her craft.
